I'm trying to look at this... Your permalink is from the URL line. You need to copy the permalink from the permalink on the bottom-right of the map. That's where the current view/selected object info is available.

Possible to be allowed to edit outside of editable area?

by WeeeZer14 (Posted Thu, 20 Jun 2013 02:57:10 GMT)<br/>For your original question as phrased in the subject, no, you can only edit in your editable area.

But yes, you can expand your editable area and can be AM of an area outside of where you live (in the US)...
IF you can say why you know it (former home, you travel there multiple times a year, etc)
IF there aren't already a bunch of active AMs in the area
IF you have a good record as an editor
IF the area you are requesting isn't huge
IF you pass all the other checks and reviews we use on each and every AM request.

Yes, I can certainly understand that this would cause problems...however, I have to ask...what kind of modern car do you have that has the antenna in the windshield? The last car I remember seeing this on was about an '85 Buick. I've had newer cars with the antenna in the rear window, but not the windshield.[/quote:2lbdhbgm]

Well, I never claimed to have a modern car <!-- s:oops: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt=":oops:" title="Embarrassed" /><!-- s:oops: --> But I do have a '98 Pontiac TransSport mini-van that I use for quick jaunts around town. You can tell by looking at it from the front....the windshield has a purplish tint to it. I use an A/C vent mount but I don't think with this type of windshield it would make any kind of difference even if I had a different mount.

by petervdveen (Posted Thu, 20 Jun 2013 12:40:00 GMT)<br/>ROADRANK

I see strange things with roadranks happening here.

rank 1:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoom=4&amp;lat=52.55559&amp;lon=5.88506&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&amp;segments=89721349,89719638">https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoo ... 9,89719638</a><!-- m -->

rank 3:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoom=4&amp;lat=52.55562&amp;lon=5.88506&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&amp;segments=89720910">https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoo ... s=89720910</a><!-- m -->

rank 4:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoom=4&amp;lat=52.55558&amp;lon=5.88502&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&amp;segments=89719643,89719269">https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoo ... 3,89719269</a><!-- m -->

rank 7:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoom=3&amp;lat=52.55559&amp;lon=5.88506&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&amp;segments=142749964,167935788">https://world.waze.com/beta_editor/?zoo ... ,167935788</a><!-- m -->

Strange that a lot of connected segments get such a different roadrank.
Also strange that this is a local highway, but a lot of national highways with more traffic don't have a rank 7 road rank.

by dctdye (Posted Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:06:23 GMT)<br/>Whoops, I didn't look into this situation enough. In the City's GIS, there is no road there. On Street View, it looks like that might technically be some apartments and that's technically their road. Also, the roads are two way. Now redo all your discussion :p

In general, I have found a lot of the U shaped roads in subdivisions and they are almost never labeled as being one way (despite the basemap having them as one way, in real life they are not signed and are wide enough for two way).

That was probably updated when they became invisible - like WeeeZer14 said, they used to be visible all over the place, then one day they just disappeared on us. Now they are back, someone will probably update the wiki again (after we check with the developers on it).

That should be the case. That same user probably added numbers to it after they named it. I've not had any issues unnaming a segment unless it has house numbers.[/quote:151awpx6]

Yes, that was the case. The user delivers pizza and was trying to get unit numbers to work.

I'm not sure why it happened with a non-existant road last night...I ended up deleting the road completely since it doesn't exist. I'd like to know if it had numbering from the basemap. It's one of those paper streets that never got developed.

Proper Way to Remove Red Light Cam?

by legend012 (Posted Tue, 18 Jun 2013 09:40:29 GMT)<br/>Verdict from the experts was that there is no way to contact them, if that info can help anyone else who stumbles across this somehow! I'll just have to keep deleting them I guess.

The cameras simply weren't showing in map editor on any of my PCs, so I couldn't click them to delete them.[/quote:1r8vn8v0]
You have to be zoomed in far enough to see them, and then if they are showing in the app but not on the editor, there could either be a problem/bug or someone recently deleted it.[/quote:1r8vn8v0]

I think in this case it was a bug or browser problem (using latest Chrome on both PC's I've experienced it on), as hitting F5 to refresh made them show up without having to zoom in further. Not sure if that is useful info or if I can submit any script logs or anything to help troubleshoot if (if that's even a level of detail being troubleshooted at this time, the workaround is frankly so simple it's likely not worth the time unless everything else is perfect).

by jasonh300 (Posted Tue, 18 Jun 2013 08:30:56 GMT)<br/>
i don't know what else i can do to fix this problem. this road <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&amp;lat=30.27588&amp;lon=-90.96298&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&amp;segments=73355901">https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&amp;lat ... s=73355901</a><!-- m --> should be Saint Kitts Ct, but it keeps trying to navigate to the street next to it which is Saint Lucia. how do i get it to navigate to the right street?[/quote:z13a0o3m]

Part of the problem may be that none of the dead-end streets in this permalink have an end node. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&amp;lat=30.27447&amp;lon=-90.96338&amp;layers=BFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFT">https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&amp;lat ... TTTFTTTTFT</a><!-- m -->

That will cause all sorts of routing problems when the destination is on these streets. You have to manually add a dead-end node on any new dead-end street you draw. Those nodes also disappear sometimes when you adjust the geometry of a dead-end street. You can also search the forums for a script called Junction Node Fixer which will help you to add dead-end nodes without having to draw a second segment.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Best_map_editing_practice?title=Creating_and_Editing_street_segments#Fix_the_end-node_on_cul-de-sacs_and_dead-ends">http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Best ... _dead-ends</a><!-- m -->

Also (unrelated to address lookups), the little segment that connects St. Kitts Ct. with Carribbean Dr is not connected on the western side. It serves no purpose on the map if it's not connected.

Note that the end-node fix won't help if the address database doesn't have the addresses in the proper place. However, it's the first step you need to take.

That was one of the features of JNF that it would keep the arrows in the same state from session to session. I think most editors keep them dimmed most of the time to avoid accidental clicks that aren't always obvious.

Deleting unapproved speed Cameras

by Twister_UK (Posted Tue, 18 Jun 2013 11:17:54 GMT)<br/>
Is it possible it was approved but has recently become unapproved by people clicking &quot;not there&quot;?[/quote:d1qlds33]

Since it's located on a main road in a position where such a camera *could* exist, and since I haven't visited that site in months so don't have any first hand knowledge of whether it really does exist or not, I've been leaving it well alone during my routine &quot;terminate with extreme prejudice&quot; sweeps of all those nice brown icons littering the London mapscape.

As far as I can recall, it's been consistently present as an unapproved camera during the last few months-worth of such sweeps, so whilst it's possible that, inbetween each sweep, it's been approved and then unapproved again, the chances of this happening regularly enough to make it look like a consistently unapproved camera every time I do a sweep seems unlikely.

Then again, if this *is* what's happening, then it raises the serious question over whether or not it's too easy to vote a camera out of its approval state - something that's been raised earlier in this thread IIRC. Given how much work is involved in getting a camera approved (visit the site, submit a camera report via the app, cross your fingers and hope it shows up in WME at some point, fine tune the position, set the speed, approve it, wait for the next map update, revisit the site and check it shows up OK, repeat as required until it actually works as expected...) it'd be a real pain in the arse if any cameras were to then be lost as a result of a few people deliberately or accidentally marking them as not present and then being caught up in the auto-delete process before anyone had noticed their changes of state...

...it wouldn't be a bad idea if the camera data could be tweaked to store a third &quot;previously-approved-but-voted-back-into-unapproval&quot; state alongside the current approved/unapproved ones - so that a) WME could then highlight these cameras differently to the swathes of unapproved ones that genuinely are cluttering up the map, and b) the auto-delete process could treat them more leniently (or, ideally, ignore them completely and leave it up to the local editors to remove them once it'd been confirmed they were no longer present out in the real world).

I verified the price, then checked the map a couple of hours later and saw that the station there was marked as gas station, but had no name or brand. Someone could have edited it within the past 24-48 hours or so, but this area isn't as active as other areas, so I kind of doubt that. Oh well, I'll just have to see what I can find, if anything.
by dan_in_TX (Posted Mon, 17 Jun 2013 06:55:48 GMT)<br/>OK, thanks Alan. I've started to go through and correct what I can, but some of it is locked at Level 5 by txemt. I'll contact him to fix the few I can't touch.

I found another big problem with the Lackland AFB Annex, just to the west of the base. I haven't been down that way in the month I've been using Waze, so I'll try and swing by so I can unlock it to fix it. I used to work on Lackland so I'm pretty familiar with the area, but haven't been down to the base since my surgery.

It is probably a restricted turn somewhere, might be a disconnected road, improper set road, etc.

In this case I would not add anything. [/quote:3puvi8h7]

Those are great guidelines. I do think this would meet case 2. I tend to add parking lot roads in lots next to busy roads in situations like this.

by iainhouse (Posted Sun, 16 Jun 2013 09:56:54 GMT)<br/>Hey Bruno.

You need to post your request in your local unlock forum. I'm guessing that's Brasil, which appears to have a dedicated unlock request topic here.[/url:1vafr6ts] I'm not too sure because Google Translate isn't working too well tonight.

If that's wrong, start by looking in the Country (Language) forums. If you don't find one for your country, that's probably a good place to ask the question anyway. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

It's difficult and tedious to spend a lot of time to try and make the box truely square.[/quote:3m141o2w]

I don't think you have to make it perfectly square...But, if you must: you can create a road segment first that's square and snap your landmark to that. After, your landmark is perfect, you can delete the road segments.

How to solve Update Requests

by vickimachado (Posted Sun, 16 Jun 2013 03:19:47 GMT)<br/>It's one of the reasons editors really do need a way to communicate with the Wazer who posts the UR. Apparently it's in the plans to provide one.

I just solved a UR -- really, the Wazer had posted about seven in the same area -- through sheer guesswork, only because there were so many around the housing area. Most people won't do that, they'll just do one, and it's often impossible to figure it out based only on the traces (which are often missing or broken).

Sometimes when I can see the trace goes one way and the Waze route goes another, I can almost guarantee it's because the driver knows the area and just figures the other way is better.

by Editot (Posted Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:38:38 GMT)<br/>Part of your problem is likely to be that the International Server is &quot;up the spout&quot; at the moment.

Might be able to resolve once the tiles are brought up to date. In the meantime all editing is tricky, at best.

Ghost Roads will be appearing all over the place until this is resolved. But won't be appearing on the App as it's not being updated at present.

Hope this helps, a bit.

Waze has historically had problems with &quot;river islands&quot; and they recently made some updates in the US. I will pass this location on to them to find out if they can get it updated.

by dan_in_TX (Posted Fri, 14 Jun 2013 01:44:30 GMT)<br/>OK, I've found more info, and a slight workaround. The update requests for this area are currently on a bit of a hold, since txemt is our only active AM (that I can determine) and he's working on a special project of some sort. I'm trying to deal with as much of the local San Antonio load for him as I can, but I haven't driven completely around the city yet to unlock it, but that's a different issue for a different time.

Anyhow, here's a screen cap of the Kendall County Appraisal District, showing how they laid out the property lines:

[img:ch5njpk2]https&#58;//lh6&#46;googleusercontent&#46;com/-5NllMUresas/Ubsdk4vbfOI/AAAAAAAAEZ4/BL7XNtla4bY/s800/waze-kcad-bmss&#46;PNG[/img:ch5njpk2]

The area I have highlighted (in blue) is the access road off of Cascade Caverns Rd, and KCAD has that assigned as #10 Cascade Caverns Rd. I've put the house number as far down the access road as I can, with the meeting point on CC Rd at the intersection.

by artylv (Posted Fri, 14 Jun 2013 01:22:50 GMT)<br/>Someone has deleted part of the main road (and renamed it). I did report the problem, and got answer, that is it done, but it isn't! It totally messes up routing in whole area! And it is like that for weeks now. Kruzes str. must be primary street and named &quot;Kruzes street&quot; in whole length.

by AlanOfTheBerg (Posted Thu, 13 Jun 2013 07:53:08 GMT)<br/>I just found out that there are, apparently, some addresses which have a leading zero (0) which is significant. This is very odd, and something which isn't currently supported within the Waze House Numbers system.

For reference, it appears GMaps doesn't support it exactly, but if I do searches for addresses with/out the leading zero, GMaps does give the correct different locations.

Example: 0224 SW Hamilton St, Portland, OR and 224 SW Hamilton St, Portland, OR.

Not sure if this is something supportable, but if alpha or non-numerical values may be supported, that suggests that a leading zero could also be supported as the field changes from numerical to string.

by AlanOfTheBerg (Posted Wed, 12 Jun 2013 07:55:34 GMT)<br/>Though technically not a &quot;private/gated community&quot; area, the use of Private Drive road type may be advised in special situations where Waze wants to route you through such an area. I had two near me. What I did was actually drive through it several times as directed by Waze. Eventually, it figured out that it wasn't any faster than the correct way around. Waze can only work reliably with good data. Sometimes it thinks a certain way is faster due to bad data and it just needs to &quot;learn&quot; it.

This may not work in all areas as a 1/4mi long neighborhood shortcut may really be much faster than the 1-mile primary street/highway around-way. If Waze can't learn from the data then a private road may be advisable. There is a significant penalty for routing FROM a private road back to any other type of segment, so it will avoid it.

Also, look for other junctions in the area on the expected route which may be restricted incorrectly, causing Waze to look for other unrestricted routes.

As you know we've been working on making our issue tracking more visible to the community so we will be in better sync. So, [b:3go1d368]Bugzilla[/b:3go1d368] is active!

Please take your time to read the new wiki we've just posted on the subject[/url:3go1d368]. There's a part about the editor beta specifics as well.

[url=https&#58;//bugs&#46;waze&#46;com/buglist&#46;cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&amp;bug_status=CONFIRMED&amp;bug_status=IN_PROGRESS&amp;bug_status=TO%20DEPLOY&amp;bug_status=NEED%20INFO&amp;columnlist=product%2Cbug_status%2Cshort_desc%2Cchangeddate%2Cvotes%2Ccf_priority%2Ccf_issuetype&amp;list_id=14485&amp;product=Map%20Editor%20%28Internal%29&amp;product=Map%20Editor%20%28Public%29&amp;query_format=advanced&amp;resolution=---&amp;order=cf_issuetype%20DESC%2Ccf_priority%20DESC%2Cbug_id%20DESC&amp;query_based_on=:3go1d368]Here is a search query of all the current editor bugs and requirements[/url:3go1d368].

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, things that need clarification, etc.
From now on we consider this the canonical list of issues we'll be dealing with. If there's anything missing, old bugs that are not there - let me know and we'll make sure everything is in sync.

Hi guys!
These are very exciting news indeed!
We'll do our best to address all your questions here.

Basically, as Noam mentioned - nothing really changes in our workflow and in our work together.
How will waze and google merge their maps? Will we still have to edit?

This will waze to grow even faster! Congratulations again[/quote:c3jfw8ym]

Waze maps and Googles maps stay separated and it is not allowed to use google maps data to edit Waze maps.
However - there is going to be a significant focus on the enhancement of the map editor and new tools will be available to us - yes, that includes google's aerials and street view ![/quote:c3jfw8ym]

so it seems, that google maps roads will not join waze map road segments and also it will be not possible to use them for editing. most probably due to licencing of the road data, which are from external source, not owned google.
but I expect WME will provide google's aerials and some integration of street view in future. that would help a lot as current bing aerials are poor in many countries.

by woodvale (Posted Wed, 12 Jun 2013 06:22:03 GMT)<br/>You'll get this error until that tile is back in sync after the roll-back. Very annoying, I know, but the world server takes a long time to completely refresh and, until it's complete, we'll get these sync errors in various places.

Wait until the Status page shows the refresh is complete. If you continue to get the error after, you'll probably need to raise a support call.
