Waze cited as one of the ‘ones to watch’ in 2010

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Check out our three seconds of glory!  Waze’s mention, 4:33-4:36, as one of the hot companies to watch out for in 2010 done did us proud. Take a look at the other 4:54 minutes of the clip, too – it’s a nice little recap of 2009 in the Tech space…

It’s official: waze is contagious…

contagious

We just found out that we were selected to be featured in Contagious Magazine’s newest issue. Contagious is a resource that covers topics such as branded content; mobile marketing; social networking; user-generated content; word of mouth; viral; interactive; blogs; video games; retail initiatives; design innovations and emerging technologies – and here’s what they had to say about us in issue 21 (page 29):

“Advanced as navigation technology has become, it isn’t all knowing, yet. Spotting local jams, overturned milk floats and burst water mains requires eyes on the ground. Step forward Waze, a free community-based mobile navigation app which automatically updates in real-time as users drive, detecting traffic levels which are constantly updated for other drivers to see. Users can share and report information such as accidents or road works, even upload photos. Development is completely dependent on the community, who update street names and correct errors as they go. Devised by Israeli software engineer Ehud Shabtai, Waze launched worldwide in November 2009.”

Nice shout out to Ehud, our co-Founder and CTO!

Participate in Waze’s Holiday Treasure Hunt!

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

EnglishScreens

Once you download the new holiday version and get out there on the road, you’ll see yet another cool feature – treasure chests scattered here and there around the map. What’re those treasure chests all about? Well, they’re part of the waze Holiday Treasure Hunt, silly!

From December 17, 2009 to January 1, 2010, keep your eyes peeled for treasure chests along your daily commute for your chance to win!

Driving over these chests opens them, revealing anything from bonus points and waze goodiebags to Amazon giftcards! You’ll get a pop-up after you drive over them, telling you if you’ve won anything, or if the chest has been emptied by another wazer already. If you’re a winner, you’ll get an email with instructions on how to claim your prize shortly thereafter…

Happy treasure hunting, wazers, and happy holidays, too, from all of us at waze!

 holiday celebrate

Foursquare Integration – We’re super excited to announce our integration with Foursquare, a popular new location-based geo-gaming app that’s getting a lot of buzz. Users of both apps can now ‘check in’ to various locations on Foursquare via the waze client – a feature that’s we hope you’ll really like! If you’re not already familiar with Foursquare, you’re definitely gonna want to check this one out…

‘Road Goodies’-  As you know, waze recently added ‘road goodies’ – small icons worth bonus points – and the just-released holiday version features adorable wintery ‘road goodies’ including snowflakes (worth 50 points) and candy canes (worth 100 points), scattered all over the map.

Holiday Treasure Hunt – We also have a holiday treasure hunt running, where little treasure chests scattered around the map will open to reveal real-world prizes! (See the next blog post for more details…)

Multiple Language Support –  And last, but not least, the new holiday version also includes Spanish and Italian support, both on the client interface as well as the audio navigation prompts. These translations were fully undertaken by waze community members, and we’re turning to the rest of you to help out with the waze translation project. Check out the waze Wiki for more information on how to get involved. We’re currently working on Bosnian, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Russian – but feel free to add any language that you wanna be wazing in!
