LA wazers – participate in the ‘Monster Skeetox Giveaway’ to win Skeetox tix + an iPad!

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

If you’re living in the Greater Los Angeles area and love KIIS-FM’s DJ Skee, then check out and participate in our “Monster Skeetox Giveaway!”

Starting Sunday, LA wazers will see Skeetox road goodies (like the one above) distributed all over the map. Make sure to munch as many of these road goodies as you can before midnight on Tuesday to get a chance to win a pair of tickets to the upcoming Skeetox event – the official Sunset Strip Music Festival Kick-off Party featuring Xzibit, Paul Wall and other special guests at the Roxy this Wednesday. We’ll be giving out 3 sets of tickets to the top 3 road munchers.

In addition, prior to midnight on Tuesday, keep your eyes peeled for one prize-filled treasure chest distributed somewhere on the map, too. When you drive over this chest you’ll get a Skeetox Survival Kit filled with all kinds of Skeetox swag, plus two tickets to Wednesday’s event, to boot. Sweet!

But don’t let the road munching stop there – the Skeetox icons will be up on the map through next Sunday and munching them automatically enters you into a raffle to win a brand new iPad! Note that munching one Skeetox road goodie will enter you into the draw, but the more you eat, the better your chances are to win…so get out there and munch all you can!

Ok, how about a recap?

To participate in the ‘Monster Skeetox Giveaway’ you have to:

1 – Download waze if you haven’t already

2 – Make sure to register with a working email address. If you’re an unregistered existing user, you can register yourself under ‘Settings’

3 – Munch as many Skeetox road goodies as you can *and* keep your eyes open for the grand prize-filled treasure chest to win the grand prize or tickets for Wednesday’s event – and keep munching throughout the weekend for your chance to win the iPad!

4 – Wait by your email. Treasure chest winners will get a notification by email before Wednesday and the iPad winner will be notified early next week.

***Good luck, Angelenos!***

Wazers, meet the NMA – NMA members, meet waze (and win an iPhone 4!)

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

For more than 25 years, the National Motorists Association (NMA) has been the most-trusted source of information on fighting speeding tickets – and we over here at waze have a lot of respect for that. Anyone that’s helping to protect the rights of drivers on the road gets a big thumbs up from us. If you’re interested in learning more about how to fight a speeding ticket, make sure to visit the NMA’s site and they’ll tell you all you need to know.

We want to get more NMA drivers into the driving communities in their areas, so from August 3-September 30, we’re running a special promotion – for NMA members only -and the winner can pick up a brand new iPhone 4 – just for checking out our app!

NMA members – here’s how to make yourself eligible:

1 – Download the waze app to your phone – it’s free!

2 – Once the app is installed, play around a little, then make a road report by clicking the ‘Report’ button on the bottom of the main screen.  You can report on any kind of hazard, accident, traffic, speedtrap, etc., but make sure to type ‘NMA’ in the area that asks for more details about your report – this s the action that will enter you into the contest.

3 – Wait ‘til October 1. On that date, waze will look through all the road reports with ‘NMA’ mentioned in them and pick one NMA member, at random, to win the iPhone. Winners will be contacted via email so it is important to register with your actual email address!

We’re excited to have all you NMA members on board – we hope you find waze a fun and useful new resource for the time you spend on the road!

Another Waze Worldcup update…

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Above you’ll find the top 28 countries, in alphabetical order, who are leading the way in the waze worldcup. As you know, on June 26th we’ll be selecting 16 countries to continue onwards in the competition, and that’s when it’ll get super exciting and competitive, but in the meantime, it’s anyone’s race. For a little perspective, the top country’s “team”, ie: their top 11 users, have munched 885 road goodies so far while the next country down the list’s “team” has munched 859, so they’re neck to neck! As we said before though, even if you only munch one soccer ball in the whole competition, you’re still in the running for the iPad raffle should your country be the grand prize winner, so make sure you and your countrymen/countrywomen contribute to your country’s overall success – tell your friends about the waze worldcup and get as many people as you can out there for the win!

First results from the Waze Worldcup…

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Alrighty wazers, the info you’ve all been waiting for…above you’ll find the top 32 countries competing in the waze worldcup, in alphabetical order. No, this list doesn’t tell you who is closest to the top, but it does tell if you and your country are in the running to continue onwards. As we get closer to June 26, the next stage of the competition, when 16 countries move to the next heat, we’ll give you more information about who’s out in front, so make sure to stay tuned. Just a note that most countries have munched less than 20% of the balls distributed in their areas, so we suggest you get out there and take the long way home today to see if you can pick up some more. Another little bit of info…the top 32 countries have, on average, eaten about 3600 road goodies up to this point, so every single one counts!

Compete in the International Waze Worldcup right from your car for a chance to win a new iPad!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Ok, Soccer/Football/Futbol fans, this one’s for you…announcing the Waze Worldcup! Like in the regular worldcup competition, it’s an epic battle, country against country, to see who’ll come out on top – and in the Waze Worldcup, the final country left standing will not only get all the glory, but three lucky users in that country will also get a brand new iPad! Woo hoo!

So here’s the deal - the Waze Worldcup is all about munching soccer ball road goodies for the win. And similar to the FIFA structure, you guys will be competing on behalf of your country, tournament-style, in different phases of the game. All countries will be eligible to participate (currently we have wazers in over 100 countries!), and on June 11, along with the regular Worldcup, we’ll get set this thing off. Soccer ball road goodies will be distributed all over the map and the countries that munch the most soccer ball road goodies will be the ones to make it to the next round.

Here’s the schedule:

  • June 11 – Competition begins
  • June 26 – only 16 countries will move to the next round
  • July 4 – only 4 countries will move to the next round
  • July 11 – the competition ends at midnight GMT – winning country and iPad winners will be announced within 24-48 hours as it will take some time for us to validate results

Note that at every stage above, we’ll refresh the road goodies and countries will start all over collecting balls, from scratch, so everyone’s got a fair chance if you’re still in that game. The road goodies will be refreshed at the end of the day on the dates above, we’ll also remove the balls from the maps of countries that are no longer in the running.

And as far as the iPads go, we spent a great deal of time trying to make the competition as fair as possible and as many of you have suggested in the past, we changed the overall mechanics of winning the competition, moving to a raffle system. Now, each participant in the overall winning country has a chance of winning that is proportional to the number of road goodies they ate throughout the entire competition, so get out there and get munching people!

Also, for those of you interested in the technical background of the competition, in terms of road goodie distribution, we’re using a calculation that takes into consideration the number of a country’s active users (within the last two months), the density of road segments and the size of the country, so this should equalize all countries to compete on, more or less, the same playing ground. Also, as another way of equalizing the competition, the calculation of who advances at each stage of the competition will be based upon the total road goodies munched from each country’s teams (ie: the top 11 road munchers) – but for those of you who will only munch a few, don’t be discouraged – even these few will keep you in the running for the iPad raffle should your country be the big winner!

And another thing – we know that there were road goodies in all kindsa funky places last time (What? You don’t want to drive into a lake to get that ripe road goodie right in its center?), so this time around we’ve tried to minimize that. Keep in mind though, it’s an automated system, so, though we hope you’ll notice an improvement, there might still be some glitches…

Lastly, we’ll update you all on the top countries on a daily, or every-other-day, basis via Twitter, so make sure you’re following us: @waze

Best of luck to you all out there, and may the best country win!  :-)

Waze is looking for GIRLPOWER!

Monday, June 7th, 2010

We love our users, but there’s a small problem – they’re almost all boys! We’re talking, like, 98%. We’ve been asking ourselves about where all the waze girlpower is for a while now, and today we’ve finally decided to take action: CALLING ALL LADIES!

If you’re a girl gadget geek who loves getting involved in trendsetting technology projects, then waze wants you. We’re looking for ladies to become wazers and to start contributing to the driving communities in their areas. And as a small incentive to help attract more female attention to our app, we’re giving away an iPad to a randomly selected wazerette on June 17!

How to make yourself eligible to win the iPad:

1- Be a woman. We don’t suggest you do this especially for the contest, if you’re not one already.

2- Retweet this message on Twitter (feel free to translate, outside of English-speaking countries):

Ladies: RT this message, download waze, and chit chat ‘girlpower!4 your chance to win a new iPad! Details here: bit.ly/cqg2Rn

3- Download waze, if you haven’t already. Make sure to register your email address in the registration process, or in yours settings, so we’ll be able to contact you, should you be the lucky winner!

4- Post one ‘chit chat’ on the waze map with this message (must be in English): Girlpower!

Note that to send a ‘chit chat’, all you have to do is to click the ‘report’ button, click the purple and blue ‘chit chat’ icon, type your message, and then click send.

Simple as that. On June 17, we’ll randomly select one lady wazer who has completed all of the above steps and reward her with said shiny new iPad. Not half bad, eh? Please help us spread the word!
