“…and the feature I really like is how It allows an individual to update the app with newly developed streets. It shows me the Waze to all my new favorite places!”
Greg Petersen smiled as he showed us the Waze app on his phone. “How long do you think until I get 1 million points?”
Besides being an avid Waze user, Greg also holds down the drums for the band Evaline. If you haven’t heard of Evaline, don’t worry. For the un-initiated Evaline hails from Turlock, a small city in California’s agriculturally rich Central Valley. But do not let their humble origins fool you. The band has built a substantial following in Europe over the last three years.
“It’s been a crazy ride” said band manager Spencer Rinkus. Evaline has come a long way from playing in their small hometown. Last November, the band played direct support to BUSH on their “Sound of Winter” European reunion tour.
Most recently, Evaline made news by teasing their fans via their Facebook page, hinting that big news would be announced on June 8th. Evaline did not disappoint its more than 7,000 Facebook fans and 80,000 Tumblr followers.
Evaline’s popular song “There, There” was selected as the official soundtrack to UEFA’s ‘Swap Your Jersey – Show Respect” campaign for one of soccer’s most prestigious tournaments, Euro 2012. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTeNictJxMw
The commercial has given Evaline great exposure all over the old continent. Daniel Petersen, Greg’s brother and baritone guitar player adds, “The song is now being played in the UK. Looks like some big European shows are in the works in Greece, Italy and Germany based off of our previous tours and Euro 2012. The campaign has given us recognition by getting our name out on such a big stage.”
Last Saturday, pre-tournament favorites Spain reached the semi finals for the third time in as many tournaments. If ‘La Roja’ wins, they will become the first national team to win three consecutive titles. Euro 2012 could be remembered as the site that sealed Spain’s history in the record books.
Across the Atlantic in California, the Petersen brothers and the rest of Evaline will remember Euro 2012 as a culmination of years of hard work, touring and recording. Spain may seal their own history this upcoming week, but Evaline is just writing theirs.
And what a pleasure it is to see and hear them do so.
