You ready, Wazers? Today at 9am EST, we’re kicking off the US Smartphone Face-off, where each of the 3 top operating systems in America will go head-to-head in an effort to show the others who’s boss! We’ve partnered with blogs representing each top smartphone platform – Tibp (iPhone), Android Central (Android) and Crackberry (Blackberry) – and starting this morning, you’ll notice little road goodies all over the US map representing each one for you to get out there and eat. Munch the goodies related to the type of phone that you’re using and you’ll help bring your platform to victory, plus you’ll enter yourself into the drawing to win a brand new iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab, should you operating system win the overall competition. Pretty cool, eh?
Here’s how it works:
· Each road goodie is worth 2 points and the blog that gains the most points, wins.
· Only road goodies eaten by a phone corresponding to the type of road goodie will count – ie: if an iPhone user eats an Android road goodie, the points will not count for either blog. If a Blackberry user eats a Blackberry road goodie, the Blackberry blog will get a credit of two points.
· Once one of the three blogs is determined to have won, we’ll take the top 25 road munchers from that blog and randomly select one of these top 25 to win a brand new iPad *or* Samsung Galaxy tab of their very own!
· Every few days your blog will post an update so you can see where it stands among the competition.
The competition starts today and will go until 11:59pm PST on November 10 – we’ll announce the winners on the 11th. Make sure to tell your friends on the same platform to get involved, too, to make sure that your blog wins. Wishing you lots of luck and may the best operating system win!

Collected a bunch of road goodies last night (on an Iphone) but when I would drive over an Android or BB goodie the Iphone goodies wouldn’t register. I had to reboot Waze to get it to register an Iphone goodie everytime if I had gone over something other than an Iphone goodie previously. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. I lost about 6 Iphone goodies last night to this bug.
This seems a bit unbalanced. All of the main roads are littered with iPhone symbols whereas Android (and to a lesser extent Blackberry) seem to be in weird side roads and back alleys. How was the placement determined?
Could you do this in The Netherlands as well? We have maybe the fastest growing userbase in Europe, despite being a small country. A contest like this will help keeping the newbee’s!
So how was it determined how to lay these icons out? I ran over four or so iPhone icons in a row on a main highway but have to drive to the middle of nowhere to find Android icons. It seems pretty unbalanced.
Waze works great on my WinMo, and I am proud to have wiped out about a dozen goodies or so in the last couple of days, just to keep the others down.

do the phones disappear once they’re ran over by one user or is there a bug thats wiped all the phones out? monday i missed probably around 20-30 phones because every time the maps updated, the phones were behind me. now there are no phones anywhere to be found and a friend in Pittsburgh said the same thing was happening there with lack of phones.

it all seems pretty balanced to me. seems to be an equal number of iphone, blackberry, and android icons — or, well, there DID seem to be, before i munched all the iphones!
i’m assuming placement was done in the same way as normal road goodies — they are placed coincident with waze’s generated map problems, in a somewhat geographically equal way. judging by history, it seems like they may be balanced based on the number of road segments, so given the same area an urban centre with 10 times as many roads as a rural area might have 10 times as many goodies. don’t quote me on that, though.

I am kinda lost with the contest updates… i have not seen any, except one blog says that all 3 are neck and neck… with no data.
are they just gonna pick a winner at random? or are the “winners” already predetermined?
it is an odd contest that gives no inkling of what is going on, especially after it said it would give periodic updates.

iOS version is incredible!! It works on my old iPhone 3G!!
I’m looking for the iOS 4.2 update as well. Hope the performance gets better. Still, a bit laggy on 3G sometimes. Especially when opening the navigation menu.
So does it register your device, even if you are not a member of either forum and have no idea that there is even a contest? I have to assume that it would, because it never asked me to sign up for a contest. Also, I have driven over 200 miles and only seen 2 symbols, both Android. I thought I’d be munching like pac-man, but no symbols to be had in my area apparently.
