So, the ‘waze across America’ contest recently came to a close and we’re happy to report we had many happy winners in each the first 10 states that reached 100 unique road reports. One randomly-picked winner got their choice of a new iPhone 3GS or MyTouch 3G in each state and the top five road reporters in all ten states got special waze goodie bags, too. (BTW – If you haven’t gotten yours yet, sit tight, they’ll be on their way shortly…)

Here are the states that got to the finish line first: New York, California, Georgia, Texas, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois and Florida.

Calling all mobile geeks in the SF Bay Area! Come out for some free food and drink Thursday, August 20, 2009 @ 6:30pm and watch our guerilla-style cinema (the movie will be “Bullitt,” of course). We’re also giving away an iPhone 3GS!

• Date/Time: Thursday August 20, 2009 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm
• Location: Tesla Motors’ Menlo Park Store parking lot (300 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA. 94025)
• RSVP: Please RSVP by leaving a comment in this post. The event will be kid/pet/hipster friendly, so don’t be shy about bringing the family out for good eats and mobile-treats!

How to participate:

• Download waze onto your smartphone – it’s free!

o    Android users download here.

o    iPhone users download here. (iTunes link)

• Leave from anywhere in the SF Bay Area around 5:30pm – 6:00pm
•  Enter “300 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA. 94025″ into the “Search” field.
• Use the app to find your way to the event. Remember to keep the application running while your driving. All Drivers: If the route is wrong just drive the correct way and you will be teaching WazeAlong the way chomp as many points as you can and test out the app (Integrate road tweets from settings, record new roads, report traffic or hazards). You’re actually updating the map in real time by doing this!
• Converge at the Tesla Motors Menlo Park dealership @ 6:30PM

If you don’t have a compatible smartphone, don’t worry, you’re still invited. Raffles will be open to anyone and everyone – as long as you RSVP by leaving a comment in this post. Remember to RSVP, otherwise, you won’t have a chance to win any of our cool prizes!

Everyone is invited. We’ll have kids and at least one dog at the party, so don’t be shy about bringing the entire family out for the night. Hipsters are encouraged to leave The Mission and come hang out with us geeksters, too…

Contest details

We’re giving away an Android myTouch 3G phone or iPhone 3Gs (winner’s choice) to one of the first 100 unique wazers who send in a road report in your state! Note that we’ll start with the first 10 states to get to 100 road reports by unique users, and may expand the contest afterwards, accordingly.

With one entry per user, if you’re one of the first 100 drivers to send a road report in your state, you’ll have a 1% chance to win! And even if you don’t win, we’ll send the top 5 waze road reporters (by frequency), in these first 10 states, a bag of goodies as a thank you for their contributions to the community.

What you can do to increase your chances of winning

To make sure your state reaches 100 road reports by unique users, contact your friends and acquaintances with iPhone or Android phones, directing them to this link to enter the contest.

How to send a report on waze

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll find the ‘Report’ button on the bottom right hand side of the main screen. Reporting is as simple as tapping this button, choosing the type of event you’d like to report on and pressing send.

How to get waze on your phone

If you’re an iPhone user, go ahead and download waze from the Appstore by searching for ‘waze’ or finding us under the ‘Navigation’ category. If you’re an Android user there are two ways you can install waze for your Android phone - either visit the Android Market and search for waze there, or open the barcode scanner on your phone and scan our QR code, below.

• Contest period – the contest ends on December 31, 2009. Only road reports received prior to this date shall be eligible to participate.
• You must be 18 years of age or older to enter this contest.
• Winner is responsible for any activation fees and/or upgrade fees, and service fees, as well as reporting and paying any and all applicable taxes.
• Prize listed is subject to its general availability on the market. In the event of non-availability on the market, waze will provide equal compensation.
