Or use the awesome keyboard shortcuts! Shift+<first letter of layer name> to hide/show.

Use ? to show the list of shortcuts, though it's not complete. All shortcuts are in the manual.

I think there'll always be a balance between the functionality of waze as a navigation tool, to the social and gaming sides of it which help us get people to join waze, and to keep waze on in their cars.
One of our challenges is of course to get the user to keep waze turned on when he's on his way to a FAMILIAR location, such as work or home, and in these scenarios that actual routing is not the most important things as he knows how to route there - he just needs the best route at the moment.
As for the issues with cookie munching - I agree it looks bad, and as discussed in the meetup, we will remove it from the options. However, the points system will remain (and will be improved) as it's a very big motivation for many of the users who simply enjoy driving with waze - and still want to get credited for it.

krankyd - I don't think that anyone (including me) was suggesting to remove the points or gaming element from Waze. Just that there needs to be a balance between the gaming functions and the navigation. At no time should the navigation function be negatively affected by the gaming element.
Specifically that the prefer cookie/goodie navigation function is affecting proper routing. As you have stated, Waze has agreed and will be removing this option. We hope that this happens quickly.

Cookie monsters can certainly find these cookies without an option in the menu

Or have it do what the new name implies, and that is to route you to the nearest road goodie (cupcake). It'd be awesome if it recalculated to the next after you "eat" the goodie as well. Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.

If Waze is going to do this, they need to make the setting only active for the current Waze session. Part of the problem now is that people turn it on, forget that it's on, and then complain about the route that it takes them. This is regardless if the option gets you to cookies or not.
I started to mention changing to a setting only for the current Waze session at the Palo Alto Meet Up and Waze quickly dismissed and stated that they would remove the option instead. So they are removing it and we should not be asking them to return it.
