This looks like, to me, a bug whereby a login is required but it is not asked for.

Sounds plausibly. I'll try to find and delete the responsible cookie.

Its removal caused a log in being required in WME, then it got re-created. WME remains black

Finally I've found the culprit: a cookie named (loosely translated) "Local data storage"
Code: Select all
Origin:   https://world.waze.com
Size on disk:   7,0 kB
Last modification:   Monday, 9. april 2012 1:48:59
Delething this followed by a WME page refresh caused it to be recreated with
Code: Select all
Origin:   https://world.waze.com
Size on disk:   3,0 kB
Last modification:   Tuesday, 10. april 2012 19:09:37
and WME was not black anymore!!! :!:

(BTW, the www.waze.com's version of this cookie already was 3 kB in size.)

Two things that I dislike in general about the editing process/the editor interface. First, I wish there was a way to zoom further out so I can see a broader area and then zoom in and out as I see things that I want to edit etc. Second, a lot of the user requests that I've encountered don't display enough waze or user data to identify the incorrect route because the destination isn't known and the route usually cuts off too soon to see where waze was trying to route to vs the user selected route.

I agree. In my experience, most of the URs for wrong driving directions suffer this issue, forcing me to mark it "Not identified" and thus pushing it to the user to fix. The example that I think is the least helpful is when the waze and user tracks both follow the exact same road segments from start to end, especially when they are only displayed on a straight road.

Yup, deleting the cookies worked in chrome, no more black window here. Did not mention it before, but I flushed my chrome-cache at the first signs of trouble because that was what helped last time...

[Edit]
Neither did anything to the performance. "Loading road images" takes forever, unworkable.

It is like those long winterevenings our great-grandparents knew. Time for handicrafts, reading a book or update the wiki.

Not a new issue, but one that's been bugging me:

1. zoom in
2. delete camera
3. zoom out, maybe pan a little
4. zoom in, camera reappears

If you delete the camera again, the save will fail (I believe the error is "some elements have been modified...").

I've seen this happen with Update Requests too.
