Yes there is plenty of experience with this situation. For now your best option may be to spell out "Queen Elizabeth Way" if you have not found an abbreviation for the acronym "QEW" that sounds correct, or just hang tight.
There are several forum threads here that deal with the issue of TTS results, including one where we are building a master list of all the abbreviations (including acronyms) that we would like to test and eventually suggest to be added, changed, or removed from the TTS engine. Since I maintain the list, I'll be sure to add "QEW", "Q E W" and "Q.E.W." for testing. And you are correct, "Q.E.W." should be the preferred choice.
