I have seen single roads deleted, but I never saw anything like this. How can we protect the map from such actions?

Nothing yet, only thing you can do is submit it to support and they can maybe roll it back.

Is that a giant roundabout? Does it have an editor name on it?
Has Waze ever actually rolled anything back? I keep seeing that suggestion, but have never seen any example of them being able to do it.

Due to database corruption (sync) repairs they've done in the past, it's assumed they keep backups of both the database and transactions. The unknown is how far back they go.
It's all my phone's fault for using Tapatalk.

It is a giant roundabout. Roundabouts eat everything in them when they are created and that was in this case the whole village. For a quick repair I deleted a part of the roundabout and connected the major highway; I left two segments of the roundabout untouched for shaming the editor... but I am not yet sure if this was deliberate or just very very clumsy.
As for backups and restores: this is not live yet, happened over the past days. I will ask support to restore the area later today, no idea if they can.

Something similar happened in the UK last week.

Yeah this happened to me in Ramsgate, not sure if it was deliberate or not, but it's bloody stupid either way! Name and shame them publicly

I expect it is probably quite easy to do that by accident. Shame the roundabout tool doesn't have a maximum circumference.
I'm currently repairing a lot of roads around Kent and South East London where an inexperienced user has obviously been using the browser plug in and managed to set large areas (including roundabouts) to two way, and naming large areas with the incorrect city name.

Might be easy to do by accident but you still have to hit "Save"

Yeah I noticed a few twats messing Kent up! Seriously annoying.
I've seen your name on a few roads, I trust you've read and are following the wiki?
Oops, on reading that back it sounds like I'm aiming that at you. I'm not.
