Left turn not allowed buy segment is locked. How do I unlock it and restrict the turn?

Why, can only certain people unlock a segment?
Is it only area managers?
I'm an area manager, but not of that area. It is an "editable" area for me.

The lock is based on the rank of the user who last edited/locked the segment...

An Area Manager is typically a level 2 (4 cones), so if someone of a higher rank locks it and it is outside the area you manage, then you are out of luck. If it's INSIDE the area you manage, you can override any lock including those of the Waze Staff (level 6).

To find out what level you are, find a segment you've edited and select it. In the properties look at either the "Created By:" or " Updated By:" fields, after your username your rank will be in parentheses.

How to unlock a segment?

Postby gettingthere » Thu May 31, 2012 12:25 am

It's the security model. It's not of matter if who can unlock but who can edit.

A previous editor decided to lock the segment to protect it. They are currentjy a higher rank than you. The segment is now protected from lower rank editors changing it.

I don't necessarily agree that the current security model is good. But this is how it works at the moment.

Morale of the story - think before you lock. Mostly all that it does is prevent other good intentioned editors from contributing.

I thought another purpose of locking was to prevent roads from changing direction, particularly ramps. As I recall, that was in the Wiki directions. Am I missing something?

Outdated information. Now the proper use of the lock funtion is to prevent editing of high value roads only.

I've found I can't unlock most segments from the new editor, but can unlock them from the old editor. Kind of a pain.

Thanks. I guess I should go back and re-read the whole Wiki again...

It's a loophole in the great Map Editor security model. If they are locked in the new editor, and you don't have the editing rank or area manager status to override them, you should not be able to unlock them...
