Connect roads in order of selection?

Postby naesstrom » Sun Jan 24, 2010 2:52 pm

ok, this suddenly blossomed up into a huge discussion over at the swedish forum, so I thought I'd take it here to get some more insight from the rest of the world :D

It all started with one member that wanted to combine 2 segments of a road into a single piece, I claimed bridging was the way to go and another one suggested "Connect roads in order...".

as I have understood it, Bridging merges 2 parts of roads and makes them into 1 but either increases or decreases the level they are at.

Connecting roads in order... thats for the navigation to understand from what roads you can drive from and to another set of roads, all clearly shown with the colored lines if you have "show connectivity" on...

I think it's the same discussion that we had here earlier: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1869&start=0&hilit=how+important+is+it+to but that was more how to merge roads into 1 single part.

is this right or am I going completely senile over here?

You are correct. Connecting by order of selection is for allowing turns or road direction. Bridging allows to to combine segments, but increases or decreases the level. It seems that there should be a combine segments withot increasing level but there is not.

If you do use the bridge to combined roads you can go into the edit panel and set the road back to zero after you combine them.

Yes, that is what I do each time. However, it is a couple of more clicks and edits that wouldn't necessarily have to be made if there were an option that was like bridge, but without the level increase.
