Cartouche retirement

Postby shirlig » Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:08 pm

Hi Wazers,

As many of you already know, we would really like to start working with the new editor (WME) only and we're doing our best to expedite the retirement of the old Cartouche.

The fact that some of the important features were still missing in the WME delayed this retirement and this is why the old Cartouche is still active.

The missing features in question were:
1) Ability to edit alternate street names
2) Ability to add street numbers
3) Update requests from the livemap were still going to the old Cartouche.

Item #3 was fixed already.
Items #1 and #2 will be released soon.

The plan is to disable the access to the Cartouche as soon as the WME version is released to production. We hope that this will happen in ~ a week.

Thanks for all your help and patience during this transition period!

Isn't Cartouche the only way to see the area manager overlay layer?

Yes, but that isn't considered an essential editing function.

Shirli,

The beta editor is not, in its current state, ready for release. There are several pages of feedback and needed changes and there have been NO comments or replies from anyone at Waze. If it is released in its current state, it will be a mistake.

Please have someone reply to all the bugs and change requests in the appropriate thread.

Unless there are factors of which I am not aware, retiring Cartouche seems less urgent than the mass-unlock that we were discussing & planning (but apparently dropped) so that AMs can work in their areas without constantly submitting unlock requests for non-critical roads.

I don't think it is a good idea until the permission problem near sea is fixed.
Now I still have to rely on cartouche to add or delete nodes when that happens......

Has this ever worked? 0.o (I meant if Waze ever uses the alternate street names for routing, searching, etc.....)
I was doing it during cartouche era but stopped doing that when WME rolled out.
Also, I think if this is really going to work, not only one needs the function to add names, but also to delete names.......

Shirlig,

Question: This isn't a complete list of differences between WME and Cartouche. What will happen to some of the other differences? Examples:

1. Update requests in WME is missing the verbiage from the person who reported the problem and missing the ability for the area manager to reply back with any feedback/information.

2. Dated update requests still lingering on Cartouche - should be migrated over to WME for 'vetting' as to whether they're still issues or not. I've found quite a few Cartouche 160+ days old udpate requests which are unresolved and still need addressing.

3. Cartouche has the important ability to divide a single, two way road into two, one-way roads with a mouse click (seperate into two, one way roads). WME does not. This is a vital feature for when islands exist between double, one way roads, which aren't documented.

when will these be addressed?

There are still roads that have the dividing line box checked (i found a couple last week) that there is no way to get rid of in wme

Is there any reason to care about adding 1 & 2? As far as I know neither are used by the client/routing.

I'd rather some of the other issues (listed in previous posts above mine) be addressed, rather than these two.
