I have been active mainly in PE, Jhb, Brits/Rustenberg and some minor edits in other places in the country. Spend some time getting rid of reported errors. Nice for users to get the feedback that their report has been attended to.

By the way - how do you know your country ranking?

Hi Chris,

You can check your country ranking here, or by navigating there (on world.waze.com): My Dashboard > View Waze Scoreboard > Everyone > State.

Do you have a link to an article describing this behaviour?

Hi guys,

Hi have the app now for quite some time and it is really starting to grow on me.

I am in Cape Town and do not drive a lot, but would like to contribute.
I haven't done any editing, and did try too update some of the new roads that i spotted. I tried doing this with my PC by logging in, my profile is there but ' i don't have any drives'. Is that information limited to the device you are traveling with? I fear my BB 9300 will not be able to do this.

Any Suggestions, advice or recommendations would much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Jovan,

We have quite a few guys out there using the app, and quite a few actively editing as well, but the most people seem to shy away from the forums. This is an unfortunate situation, as the bulk of the discussions do provide good info for both new editors and even the old hands out there.

Some people tend to be 'lurkers', which will actively read all or most topics , but hardly ever post. This is not a bad thing as they are at least aware of what's happening in current topics

Some of the Champs can be ruthless in responses, so be sure to don your 'thick skin' if you ask a question that have likely been asked a million times before. It's always best to have a quick look around the forum and do some searching before asking some questions or starting a 'We really need this feature' thread. ;)

We do have a ZA specific section as well at https://world.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=62 covering the 'general' stuff and all the provinces.

Have fun, this stuff is quite addictive.

Bad news, boykies ..

It's confirmed as 15m for NA server only. Rest of the world is unfortunately below 10m for a segment to suppress u-turns.
Go to the Nanorep / support page at https://world.waze.com/support/ and type in 'stop u-turns' in the search.

You'll see the following response :
U-turns
Waze doesn't support currently u-turns.

In order to un-allow u-turns (in cases where the navigation might allow a sort of a u-turn by making to left turns) - the solution is to make the connecting segment shoter than 10 meters.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to mark a u-turn as possible.

I can confirm that 14m is not sufficient as well. I had a spate of u-turn URs on the duals in Sandton where I explicitly shortened segments to below 15m. I cracked last nights after I saw Katherine was dualed again, so spent some time last night unsplitting (& locking) some of Sandton main roads.
I presume the u-turn are more evident now that we have have far more active users in the area thanks to Apple.

Cheers

Carel

[EDIT] Here is a discussion not too long ago on the Forum : Need to find way to supress u-turns on divided highways.

Slip roads should almost always be left unnamed:

http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/At-Grade_Connectors

There are probably some remaining examples of "to Road" style naming of slip roads in Johannesburg that date back to my earliest editing efforts, please don't copy my bad mistakes ;)

Also, for that matter, please make sure that it is actually necessary to map the slip lane as a separate segment; check the GPS traces etc. If you can avoid connector segments like this, it is definitely preferable (the wiki page above has more on this subject) due to simplifying road geometry and routing.

http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Clas ... _crossings mentions it.

However, I have not been able to confirm if this behaviour is actually active on the World server; it may be US-only still.

Thus: if your split road allows an illegal U-turn, it probably should not be split. (And if it's so narrow that connecting segments in intersections are less than 10m long without artificial "pinching", it probably shouldn't be split either!)

But seriously, I think you have a good idea. I am Area Manager for Cape Town and surrounding areas - not that being AM helps that much anymore, since we can't overwrite locks now!

You may have noticed my name on some of the East London roads. I travel around the country a fair bit and before my permissions expired after 3 months, I did a bit of editing there. This year's Sunshine Tour golf season will see me getting editing permission in many areas of South Africa again for a while!

I was most surprised to see that waze will give me a route from Cape Town to Durban now. Although it does go via Joburg (!), and makes quite a detour to the west at Bloemfontein...

I do think it would be good to be able to communicate with other SA editors, so you've got my vote.
