Waze routinely routes me on small residential roads, then directing me to a cross busy street with no traffic light. These sorts of routings cause three problems: You can waste a lot of time waiting for a break in traffic; crossing without a light is more risky; and commuting on a small residential street is bad both for residents as well as the driver. I don't know what the solution is. It's nice to avoid that backup on the main road, but sometimes I suspect Waze just sent me through a winding side street full of speed bumps, only because the route was 10 ft shorter.
Is there any mechanism by which a route is known to be a bad idea during heavy traffic?

Yes, people drive the route with waze running and waze learns that the route is slower than expected.

That's good. But what if the driver decides it's insane to cross Busy Blvd. so he avoids it by turning right. How does going off route get interpreted?

I don't know. I don't believe that waze currently uses route deviations as input to their routing calculations, but I have no direct knowledge. When waze routes me through an intersection like this, I will typical wait "forever" to cross Busy Blvd. just so waze will get the data. It hasn't taken waze long to avoid the intersection when I have done this.

It gets reported as SYSTEM ERROR: These roads are too far apart and need to be connected. Draw a line connecting the two segments.
