Don't like that one. Too many places where RT is written for Route.

But is that Route for State or County?

Waze Palo Alto Meetup topics ranking

And US Hwys written as "US-x" and spoken as "yoeau ess x".

For the state routes, if we go for SR-x would we want TTS to say "ess ar x" or "State Route x"? I'd lean towards "State Route x" I guess since that seems more common.

If we also support SH-x, then the same question: "ess aitch x" or "State Highway x"?

And then county routes, CR-x. For TTS I'd lean towards "cee ar x" since that is all I've every heard anyone say, but I haven't been everywhere there is a county route.

And based on my hack research, it looks like the state highway systems are called:
Routes in 27 states
Highways in 21 states
Roads in 3 states
(50 states plus DC)

NJ is actually officially "State Highway Route" which I found funny. Everyone just uses Route so that is where I put NJ.

CT has State Routes and State Roads, but the Roads are not signed in any way.

At the federal level we also have Forest Routes, not to be confused with Forest Service Roads or Fire Roads. Any thoughts on those?

I vote against SR (state route) and SH (state highway) nomenclature. They aren't intuitive (at least in NC). I'd prefer for state highways and routes that we use the state abbreviation (e.g., NC-55 for NC Highway 55). Or at the very least make sure that state AMs have the option to do what fits the state best.

So you would have TTS belt out North Carolina Highway Fifty Five? Seems like an awful lot of syllables. However display and vocalization can be two separate things.

I'd have the TTS belt out North Carolina Fifty Five. Highway is implied and adds nothing to help understand the route.

Fly, ointment.

We really do just need a TTS override field for segments.

Apologies, I've only been part-way present on the forums recently...

I've seen dribs and drabs of the information from the meetup trickling out here and there, but has there been a consolidated recap yet? :?:

Not yet.

Krankyd promised a summary on action items from the meetup at some point.

Not sure if AlanOfTheBerg is planning a full summary since a lot of the content of the meeting has been spread throughout many posts in the forum in the past couple of weeks.

I don't think so. That'd be really difficult to get consistent for an entire state. It'd be better to get Waze involved and to get certain things introduced.

We need to get something together (in a dedicated thread) and get with the development team about getting things straight. I will be requesting that the team automatically change every "State Rte xx" and "State Hwy xx" into either "LA-xx" or "LA xx" (the former seems to fit better with current standards but the latter seems to be the official way to do it).

That would be unfortunate.

I'm not sure how you guys do it, but I have a tough time keeping track of all the different threads throughout the forum AND maintaining Real Life :-) I do hope the single recap will surface soon (wasn't one of the highly requested themes "Communication"?) and will greatly appreciate it if/when it does.
