All the time especially if I'm situated next to any major roads or GPS thinks you're on that main road it'll ask me. That or sometimes the parking lot drive is marked as a street where I've gone back and updated on Waze.

Are you in a traffic Jam?

Postby gettingthere » Wed Aug 01, 2012 4:11 am

This pop up does absolutely nothing to eliminate a false jam from being created in Waze, no matter how you answer.

If you answer yes it will make the traffic jam algorithm more sensitive which makes it more likely to create a jam on that segment.

So this only helps create more jams not reduce the number of traffic jams.

Are you in a traffic Jam?

Yes. From the very first time I used Waze last year. This isn't new. But it seems to be triggered by unique events. Guess you haven't had one of those until now.

It prevents it from putting a Traffic Jam bullet on the map. If you hit yes, it's just like manually reporting a jam. Not sure what happens if you let it time out.

Are you in a traffic Jam?

If you stop on a road that generally does not have slow traffic at that time it asks you. It won't if it sees you are in a parking lot or residential area (known based on typical road speeds). Maybe it finally saw a combination on your drive not previously seen.

The snag with this 'feature' is that it usually only pops up for me when I've taken an offramp off of the highway that I usually prefer to take, instead of the Waze recommended route.
This can have a rather long wait time and is especially a problem as Waze would have recommended me to take the next offramp further down the line which is even more congested. Not many Wazers use that one, so I'm sure the stats are slightly skewed..

The GPS track (enabled on my display) shows me as on the offramp, but the Waze display for my vehicle still shows me as stationary on the Highway, as that is the suggested route that it 'fixed' me to.

There should really be a way to 'offload' the slow-down to the correct route, i.e. the ramp itself.

For this one I have no option but to say I am not in traffic, which also screws the actual stats for the legit users of the same ramp I am using.

Every time I have slowed down considerately on a busy street waze has popped up with it. When I am however only parking there and remaining stationary for some time Waze just reduces the average speed for that segment but doesn't prompt me wether I am in a queue etc.

I was asked this question once sitting at a red light, and once in an actual jam on a highway.
But this brings up a question, should I turn Waze off when I drive through drive through?

only thing which might help is to categorize road segments properly.
e.g. use service road, parking lot road, what should prevent creating traffic jam events...
but nothing to do with it on major streets...

Are you in a traffic Jam?

Postby rruark89 » Sat Jul 28, 2012 4:01 pm

"It seems that you have slowed down, are you in a traffic jam?" Waze asked me this today while stopping for food at a drive thru with the ability to answer, "yes", "No", and "Close". Perhaps going to clean up all those false traffic jam reports?

Has anyone else got this yet?
