Why do you edit maps?

Because I like the idea of community working on content like that, some of it makes really sense.

I edit maps so that I can have all the parking lots, walking trails, railroads, airports, taxiways, horse trails, horse tracks, and islands mapped near me.

Pretty much like everyone else has said - to help the community. Also, I just like to fix things.

Last couple of days the editable map has been down (version upgrade? Amazon cloud crash?) so I haven't been able to chip in some real zingers I ran across.

BTW - anyone have a link to a discussion on how to deal with parking lots, shopping centers, and such? I notice Waze is very reluctant to allow the car icon to leave a road and enter a parking lot - does the parking lot need to connect to the street? Have a "parking lot road" added?

Also - I need to refresh myself on how to add blocked roads (permanent with a gate, or temporary due to fire, police action, flooding)... And how to re-route around a blocked road or area?

Temporary closures are not currently handled by waze.

I have noticed lately than some of what I have started to enjoy more was correcting the map error reports by people. I hope the ability to communicate back to the reporting person comes back. I would love to be able to tell people that I've corrected their problem but it will take a week or so before they will see the change.

The ability to communicate directly with those who drop update requests would be nice. Occasionally I come across a head-scratcher that I can't figure out, so it would be nice to ask someone what the heck they were thinking.

I know that the system sends a generic "your issue has been fixed" e-mail now, so it knows who submits what.

It's because I edit too much stuff. I edit Wikipedia and Foursquare so Waze is a no-brainer, right?
