unwallflower wrote:I have a question: what is the logic behind the items added to the "development plans and priorities"?

I will add my reply to the discussion page on the Template for Development Plans.

1. Every item on this list is something that Waze staff have posted that is important to them, that they are aware of is a problem, and they are working on.

2. And a few things that they have announced have recently been achieved (so achievement doesn't mean it just disappears from the list). Yes, they announced an upgrade of the North American servers.

My objectives for this section of this website are:
a) keep the Waze staff honest. Just a little nagging reminder of what they ''promised'' and to show that it is not forgotten
b) as you demonstrate unwallflower, it's pretty much impossible to keep track of what Waze staff say in the forums. People keep asking the same questions. So it also servers to reassure wazers that their issue has not been forgotten and is still being addresses or at least on the to-do list
c) because of this, this list shouldn't be thought of as complete
d) the ordering is based on the impression of importance based on the wordings of waze staff, the frequency, timing and age of comments on the topic and a perceived importance of the issue
e) finally, there is a hope that Waze staff might eventually take a hand in maintaining and contributing to this section of the wiki, especially if it becomes inaccurate
f) And if we see a waze staffer remove something from the list without achieving it, that would be worth noting too

I know that they announced that an upgrade for the North American servers is in the works, but my point is that the wiki lists upgraded North American servers under recently completed. That's why I was asking... because I don't believe it has been completed yet. Again, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I was able to locate where waze has said they plan to do most of these things... although it took a while because of the terrible search function, heh. I couldn't find where they confirmed that they plan to allow reporting from a remote location. Could you point me in that direction (if it's on the forums)? I'm just curious to read the thread.

I understand the purpose of the list. I think it's a great addition. I was just trying to locate the information that backs these up in order to better educate myself on all of the planned features.

I thought I read that they had upgraded the North American servers. It is not inconceivable that I misunderstood. I am aware of the distinction between the plans and the completion and my understanding was that it had been done. Although I suspect upgrading will be an ongoing process...
I will search for what I read once my internet connection is not tied up downloading Microsoft updates. :-(

I did originally intend to cite sources, but then some things are mentioned in so many threads, and I didn't want people to go back to old threads, and indeed I think a lot of that area should live on the Wiki rather than in forums. At any event I decided not to add forum citations. Maybe that was a mistake.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that thought...

As far as I know they're not. And if they are, then there sure as hell aint any difference. Imho that is information that should be added by Waze staff, and no-one else. This to avoid false information, but also possible legal issues in the future due to wrong information.

And if those ideas don't come through, then I'm happy to just leave the design as it stands.

I highly doubt you are really interested in any of it. Every time someone, whoever it is, brings up an idea or a thought, you tried to kill the idea. To me it is as if you have your own ideas about it all and want to get them pushed through, and only need approval from others from it so they can get into the works but you cannot stand any criticism on your ideas. I've seen many things said by people that were twisted around by you and molded into something else they didn't say. I honestly have no interest in working like that (and I have the feeling I'm not alone in that). It seems discussion with you is hardly possible because of this (that is besides the -sometimes- sarcastic undertone in some of your previous posts (and I don't mean the posts towards me, before you think I'm aiming at that)). And with that I've also said the last thing about it all, I don't feel much about turning this thread into a flame or to repeat myself.

For the record, not that I'm especting anyone to read this, or reply:

1. I don't do sarcasm. I don't believe it works on the internet.
2. Mostly, I'm just going to let me actions speak for themsleves. If anyone wants to look at what I've been saying and trying to do, and think I have some secret unstated motive, that I don't listen, and don't change, and don't try and work with others to improve things. Well, really. I find it hard to see how any objective person could come to that conclusion.
3. I really don't want to upset people or drive them away. I've offered as big an olive branch as I can type. The offer stands and will always remain there. And of course I can always be completely bypassed. I'll just get on with trying to make the Wiki a useful, comprehensive source of all information on Waze. And others can improve, tear down, or replace as they set fit. And I'll be cheering them on.
4. I do believe best outcomes come through the adversarial approach (like debating or American legal system). If someone proposes an idea, it gets critiqued, knocked down, defended, built up. I believe the end result is a better idea (or the rejection of one that is fatally flawed). That process does require a certain degree of maturity to separate one's ideas from one's sense of identity and ego.
5. I truly believe we all want Waze to succeed and improve. I admire the work of everyone in this thread in a variety of areas.
6. I don't like being personally, erroneously attacked because someone objects to me making factually based criticisms. I will tend to defend myself. In future I'll probably try and let that slide.

unwallflower wrote:Also, did they definitely upgrade the north american servers? I was under the impression that they had only upgraded the world servers, but the wiki says otherwise.

You were right. I was wrong. I finally noticed that Upgrading the North America servers for USA and Canada was still in the current working list, as well. Inconsistent! A contradiction.

Turns out I'd just copied a link for "World servers" - a link explaining the different regions, and left North America lumped in there. Bad copy and paste. Bad Wayne. No more wiki editing past my bedtime. :o

Thanks for spotting this unwallflower.

Already it is too long. 50- countries - 100 countries - most with 2 or more languages - keep the flags but put them side by side. Also can we think NOW about how we layout the many languages in one country. So I'm thinking (with flags by the side - I'm too lazy to put them in here - I'll use a *)

It is not so bad if only the designated flag actually meet the country's language. The person who added the flag of Wiki, must check, what flag he used. For example - flag of Latvia is now attached to lithuanian language (Wiki page http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Map_Editing). However, Latvia and Lithuania is not the same country, and and latvian and lithuanian is not the same language:)
