Android battery drains - suggestions?

I am a newer android user and still getting to know it, and now getting to learn Waze. If anyone has any tips that would be great...

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note, and even if I have it plugged in to my car charger, I end up losing battery life rather than maintaining or gaining. On a 30 minute trip, I typically lose about 5%, which means on a long trip I would end up out of juice.

I have found that the automatic brightness setting does not seem to work very well. One would expect that in bright sun, the phone would adjust the brightness up to 100%, but it doesn't seem to. I ended up taking it off automatic and pushing the brightness up just so I could see the screen outside, which I know is a drain on the battery right there. If I have the phone on my dash and it's the middle of the day, I need to be able to see it!

Any ideas or suggestions? I'm all ears!

Some of these are phone issues. If you're on a Note you're probably still running Android 2.3 which doesn't have great battery management to start with. One thing you might do is get a car charger that puts out a full 1 amp and convinces the phone that it's connected to a wall, not a low power source. I haven't tried it but I'm told this one: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA/ref=sr_1_1 is good for that.

Yes, running 2.3.6 - is the battery management an issue that gets resolved with ICS? It's supposed to release around here in about a week or two.

I don't know ANYTHING about chargers - would this info be helpful to determine how powerful it is? : Input voltage 12-24V,W/2A Fuse

I can't promise anything about ICS on the Note but I'm confident it will be better ... and 4.1 even better. But anyway, if you look at that Amazon page, at the first review, there is some good information. I'm not an expert but here is what I think I know: Get a magnifying glass and look at your existing charger. It might say "output 0.7A" (700 milliamps). That's typical, and when the phone sees that it thinks it's on a USB port and pulls even less charge than that. A charger that shows a full 1000mA or close to it (the Motorola one is 950mA) lets the phone think it's plugged into a wall outlet. I believe. Works for me.

Id I choose the overclocked kernel 1.5 GHz it drains battery even if pluged in
. If i use standard clock 1.2 GHz battery drain his very low if pluged in . Id I keep for dome time waze in background I fan easily recharge my battery . I have no problema ti start in the morning with 10% battery and arrive at home in the evening
With 80% battery

*sigh* there's nothing I can find on this thing regarding output. The entire sticker looks like this:

There is a small circular sticker that looks like a clock face with no hands. Numbered like a clock but the "1" is a white dot. In the middle it says:

Q C
MADE IN CHINA

The only other identifying information is a sticker tag closer to the end where you plug the phone in that just says "MOT" (I assumed that meant motorola?)

Wonder if there is a way to test the output of the charger...

If you've rooted your phone and using a custom ROM you might have the option to enable FastCharge which treats all USB chargers like the wall charger.
