Routes me onto side roads

Postby ukemike » Mon Jan 23, 2012 1:56 am

On my way into work each morning, waze has been suggesting that I turn off the main road (Red Hill Rd / Miracle Mile), which moves along nicely through there, onto this residential side road (Greenfield). It is quite insistent. I ignore waze's directions, and after each intersection it recalculates and asks me to make the next right.
I've looked into it and I think I may have discovered why. On the Live Map, if I click on the road segment labeled Miracle Mile it says average speed 0mph on some of the segments. If I click on Greenfield it varies from about 30 to 40 mph. I wonder if the data for the two roads (which are closely parallel) have been mixed up in the database due to inaccurate gps readings? Anyway, being very new to map editing, this one is out of my depth.

here is maps.google of the preferred route,

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=51+Es ... s&t=m&z=16

here it is of the waze recommended route.
http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=51+Es ... 3&t=m&z=16

Similar thing happens to me along the freeway. It asks me to get off the 580 and get right back on at the same interchange. There I haven't found anything out of the ordinary about the map or the road properties.
This is how it wants me to go:

Check your settings under Naviagation and see if Prefer Cookie Munching is turned on. It sure looks like it might be. Otherwise, you need to find your local Area Manager to adjust the map or you can try it yourself (please read the map editing section in the wiki first). Good luck.

I may have had cookie munching on. I have turned it on a few times and it has caused wild and impossible routes to be suggested to me. I just checked, and that's it. Routing is normal now, boy do I feel silly. Here is what I don't get, none of those alternate routes had dots on them for munching.

No worries. You are not the only one who has turned that setting on and been then questioning the routing.

Hopefully Waze removes this option soon, as they have agreed to do. Every day that Waze leaves this option in the settings is another day with Wazers who get routed incorrectly and falsely believe that Waze can't route them properly.

Perhaps they should just rename the option to "debug mode". During the time I had it set like that it exposed a foot path marked as a road, several wrong turn settings, and two wrong two-way road. All are now fixed.

debug mode is turned on from the navigation menu and serves a different purpose. Maybe "road diagnosis mode"? :)

It seems to behave more like "road data collection mode" from the routes that "feature" has given me when I mess around with it. In any case it's a horribly misnamed feature that needs to be turned off and only available through a #xxx# [search term] for that one specific route.
