Routing off the highway then back on for no reason

Postby nxtplato » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:45 pm

Two areas around my home will route you off the major highway for no cause. One is Highway 16 at Sedgwick Rd Intersection https://maps.google.com/maps?q=highway+16+at+sedgwick+rd,+port+orchard,+wa&hl=en&ll=47.50275,-122.641668&spn=0.010365,0.02341&sll=47.501098,-122.645252&sspn=0.010365,0.031586&t=h&hnear=SE+Sedgwick+Rd+%26+Washington+16,+Port+Orchard,+Kitsap,+Washington+98367&z=16. When headed northbound, Waze will route you to the offramp, then right through back to the onramp. While the route is locked, I've checked connections and turn permissions, and everything seems to be good. This doesn't happen every time, but it has happened to me, and I see it reported as a map issue.

The second one is at highway 3 & NW Finn Hill Rd exit, 305 interchange and continuing north on Highway 3. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=highway+3+and+305,+poulsbo,+wa&hl=en&ll=47.755454,-122.654843&spn=0.020629,0.046821&sll=47.751328,-122.617207&sspn=0.082523,0.187283&t=h&hnear=Washington+305+%26+Washington+3,+Poulsbo,+Kitsap,+Washington+98370&z=15

This one happens every time - Waze will route you off the highway, onto Finn Hill Rd, usually, and through the city, and then back onto highway 3. The issue has been reported many many times, and the whole area is locked.

It would be helpful if you posted Permalinks of the junctions, from the bottom corner of the editor.

Make sure that all the ramps and cities have no city set.

Thanks for the tips! I removed city names from the on/off ramps, and found a weird traffic allowance on one of the off ramps that I corrected. Directions shouldn't have been impacted by that, though, as traffic shouldn't leave the freeway...

Had the same thing happen several times heading east on I-90 in South Dakota we were 300 miles from our destination and Waze suggested many times that we exit the highway and then immediately get back on (i.e. take the exit and then continue directly across the road crossing the highway to the on ramp for the highway we had just left.

This occurred in the middle of nowhere with no construction and no large town within many miles.

P.S. Mt. Rushmore and Custer state park are well worth the trip :D

Make sure the turn restriction is set to disallow ramp-to-ramp routing. Waze does this due to inaccurate speed data assigned to segments.
