Can't figure out how to fix this route in Texas

Postby Traminator » Fri Jul 13, 2012 7:38 pm

I have traveled via Hwy 71 from Austin to Houston for about 10-20 trips per year for the last 20 years... and Waze's routing can't follow my path because there must be some missing segment that I've pinpointed to between Bastrop, Tx and La Grange, Tx... there is even a city in between called Smithville and I can route to both cities from Smithville along the same general highway but going from Bastrop to La Grange takes me WAY off the beaten path as if there is an missing segment of road... I checked the editor 3 times and even made a few minor updates but still haven't solved this problem and until that's fixed every trip to Houston Waze gets really confused for about an hour... I (think I) have gone through the hwy segments between the two cities carefully but I must be missing something because the routing is still not working. Would appreciate any help, thanks!

Here is the Bastrop start point:

Here is the La Grange end point:

Here are the correct directions in Google Maps
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Bastrop, ... e&t=m&z=11

If you use Waze's live maps, when you type in Bastrop, you have to select it again from a drop down that you almost don't notice.

Thanks! - Love Waze, just can't use it for this trip :(

Tricks of the trade. Either when navigating, watch for the spot where things go bad, or things start going right. That will limit you down to where the problem might be.

Changing the destination to between the mid point city and the destination, you can see navigation take the correct highway but jumps off in the mid point city. Something is wrong in that mid point city. That is where to start

Okay, more investigation... all the turn restrictions looked okay, so I started rebuilding them, and found that a highway segment had been overlayed onto of an freeway segment. The turn restrictions looked okay, but it was actually connected to the freeway segment, that wasn't connected at the other end.

Deleted, and she be all good now (after the next / next map update.)

I was investigating that same route for someone else a few weeks ago and found about a dozen doubled-up segments like that. It may be that the changes I made haven't made it to the updated tiles yet.
