Trouble with editing

I'm having trouble with editing. I am using Chrome, and when I select a segment I often don't get the turn directions (though sometimes I do), and the same with the intermediate shaping handles that allow you to change the shape of a road.
Sometimes changing the zoom level makes them appear, but sometimes it doesn't.
Chrome is up to date, but I am not using the world's fastest PC - but I have left it a couple of minutes to see if it is just the machine running slow, and it appears not to be that.
Some days it works just fine!
I'm enjoying editing and improving the map, but this is very frustrating.

Sounds like you may not have permissions to edit in that area. When you select a segment, to the left does it read something like, "You cannot edit this segment." ?

Check what Alan suggested, but as discussed in the WME editor feedback thread, ensure that you have the Landmark layer turned off. This is usually the culprit for what you describe.
