This has been asked for before and is probably very low on the priority list. RIght now, as built, Waze is for use in private passenger vehicles. Not bicycles. Not busses. Not trains. Not airplanes. Not boats (unless a ferry). No one can stop someone from doing that, but all it does is mess up Waze for everyone else. (Is that traffic just from someone on a bicycle? Is the LACK of traffic because of the commuter rail line next to the highway?)

I suppose that traffic jam is reported automatically by waze because I'm the only one using it at the time.

Yes, Waze automatically generates ALL traffic jam reports. When a user reports a jam, it really just tells Waze to look closely at the situation and be ready to declare a traffic jam. A report alone will NOT create a traffic jam.

So as long as people in cars have at sometime driven on the road you are cycling on, you will create a traffic jam and pollute the historical average speeds simply by riding through.

As much as I like Waze and as much as I like my bike, I never mix the two for these reasons ;)

It is kinda of annoying, that Waze doesn't auto-stop reporting, or have a "run but don't report" feature. I understand that it might hurt if a lot of people started using it all the time, but for those that bike, are checking the traffic before they get off the train, or even as simple as checking the traffic at home before heading out, it just messes up the traffic for everyone else.

I was checking something on in Waze when I got home, and it alerted me that traffic was at a standstill on my road. My road is only a 1/8 of a mile but since I got home and parked, and there was another Waze user on the map, also (I assume) at home and parked, it reported a traffic of 0 miles an hour... on a road where I can see both ends of the street. I'm assuming when I arrive at my work, or a restaurant or something similar, it's doing the same thing, unless I make a point of telling Waze to turn off. Which, I have to admit being new to the Waze system, is not something that's ingrained into my pattern yet. This means every time I arrive at a destination (some I've told Waze I'm heading to, others i just stop at), it's reporting that the road i'm on has just come to a complete standstill. Not good.

I often use Waze now to check on traffic conditions or just see the different settings (just figured out I can do 3d instead of 2D, hey I've only been using it a week!)... so perhaps I'm missing something, but from this thread it appears that this feature might be a rather large whole in the auto-crowd sourcing nature of the app. If I'm wrong and there's some auto feature built in that I'm missing, I'd like to be told. I've tried to do my research before posting, but hadn't found anything that allows me to activate/use Waze without it reporting back.

Well one thing that might work for checking Waze at home, is make sure the GPS is turned off before starting Waze, if it doesn't know your position it can't exactly report any jams anywhere. That doesn't help with biking or the like, but it's a fix for one activity not occurring while on the road.

I would like to see, that if I click on another waze user I see the distance they are from me and possibly what speed they are travelling.

Also I would like to be able to add "Flood" as an option for an Incident... maybe under weather.

You can already see roughly what speed they are travelling, the problem is where do we draw the line between accuracy and privacy?
