Unlock Request Bentonville, AR

Postby CE4029 » Wed May 30, 2012 4:38 am

Someone has locked large portions of US Highway 71 in this area. Here the northbound lanes are locked one way southbound.

People doing things like this make Waze unusable for navigation. I just did a round trip 600 miles up this highway, and Waze was horrific. Often trying to route me a hundred miles out of the way. It even got me into the heart of Kansas City Mo and just went tilt. Unable to calculate route. I was left to find my way back to the freeway on my own.

I thought I would try to find and fix the problems that caused this along my route but locked silly edits like this one are making that impossible.

Sometimes segments are locked for a reason ... such as to prevent major changes being made by someone who doesn't understand the editor system well enough yet. The segment that you permalinked is already one-way in the correct northbound direction, and has been for over two months at least:

Here's what you might not have picked up on here: when ascertaining what direction a one-way road is going, don't look at the "Direction:" arrow in the Properties box on the left -- look at the arrows on the segment itself in the map view. The "Direction:" arrow just shows whether the segment goes in the direction that it was originally drawn or in the opposite direction -- not which direction the traffic actually flows.

That said, there were some major problems north of there, including the point at the other end of that segment (which was junctioned to nothing, instead of to the next northbound segment in the sequence). Because I corrected that error, the initial segment that you posted about is now showing as having been edited last by me today ... but the direction on that segment is still correct (and has been correct for at least two months, as shown in the screenshot above).

Additionally, there's a major portion of road from that point and northward that should be Freeway rather than Major Highway or Minor Highway (and does I-540 really just end at SE 14th St and continue as a state route only?). I don't have time to deal with that right now and will leave it for a local Area Manager to address.

Thank you. You are correct with your assumption, I did not see any connection arrow to the segment to the north either red or green and couldn't edit either segment. Since the arrows were opposite I incorrectly thought two opposing one way segments were back to back and the editor was showing it wrong.
Yes, I540 does end and continues on as US71. Parts of which resemble freeway segments and some as major highway segments as the highway goes through Bella Vista. Shortly across the Missouri line it becomes a brand new freeway type highway, but at some intersections it reverts back to regular highway just for the intersection. A lot of US71 is that way in Missouri. I noticed this trip as it gets near Kansas City they are in the process of adding overpasses and on/off ramps.
I cleaned up I540 the rest of the way south to Fort Smith which fortunately was not locked. Waze is performing excellent in that section now. Just a few ghost segments left there.
