I would like to add the area I live in to the maps, but get error saying that I have no permission to save.

Firstly, a warm welcome to waze from another Somerset West resident!

I see that you joined waze only a week ago, so perhaps you don't know yet that you are only able to edit within 1.6km (1 mile) from where you have driven with waze. It would seem that your permissions haven't come through yet. There have been lots of delays recently in routes and, I assume, the permission for those routes becoming available.

Sometimes the problem is that a road gets locked by a higher ranking editor which prevents a lower rank from editing, but I have checked the segments in the area you want edit and they are all unlocked.

I guess in this case you will need to wait till the permissions come through. I would encourage you to ride everywhere with waze running, even if you're not using it to navigate. This way you will build up your editable area.
