FAO: Timbones (Leeds, UK Junction Levels on A653, A64(M)

Postby DeggersUK » Mon Jul 02, 2012 9:17 am

Hi,
You have locked this small road/turn for editing and a user has reported an error where he was asked to turn off the bridge right onto a lower level road. From what I can see the levels are not correct for this stretch major junction which is the most likely culprit as I live in Leeds I know this junction well.

However, it is locked and I cannot edit the right hand turn which you have as level 1 when it is at ground level so level 0 would be a better fit??

I will send you a PM for a heads up to this thread.

Interesting fact about levels, thanks. I work in ls6 and can travel that route on the way home to test what happens either going down the ramp and heading right or going straight over. Cheers, Alex.

Levels have no effect in routing (they are pretty much obsolete anyway with WME), just ignore them.

If you look carefully at the problem, you see the user was snapped to a adjacent road instead of the motorway he was on. Probably due to user having an inaccurate GPS signal somewhere along the route. So there's really no problem here.

Indeed, it does look like the user got snapped to the wrong road, possibly after ignoring a previous instruction to exit the A64 (M). As the route was along the side road, the 'snap' to that road would have been stronger than usual.

The levels are correct for that junction, but would not have any affect on routing. I can try moving New York Rd further away from the A64 (M) to try to reduce this particular problem. It's tricky though, as New York Rd is actually underneath the motorway, not next to it. Waze won't be able to distinguish between the roads, and the signal will probably be quite poor anyway.

It's hard to know what the real problem is with routing here, or why the user neglected the first instruction. My guess is that they could have been driving to Garforth, in which case Waze was showing the best route.
