Error"While you were editing,the element..."error (S Africa)

Postby twobalive » Thu Aug 16, 2012 4:50 pm

Hi

I am trying to remove a duplicated segment of road but keep on getting this error on the two segments:

"While you were editing, the elements you're trying to save have been modified and/or deleted.
Please refresh and try again."

Any ideas?

I had plenty of those pop up. The easiest / best if you have plenty of edits queued is to undo some and see if you can save then.
If not, the quickest is to close the browser and reopen it. Sometimes you are lucky and most of the edits will actually be saved already and will appear in the fresh window.

I try to save frequently now, especially if mapping new areas. It wastes less time.

Tried both and gone down to one change before I save, nothing works.

What you've got here is a 'ghost segment'. I've found quite a few in the Cape Town area as well. Funny enough, this ghost segment was actually last edited my me :o but I can truthfully say it's not my fault! :)

What you need to do is (and forgive me if I over-simplify this - I don't know your level of knowledge):
Select the segment in question - make sure it's the right one.
Click Permalink - just below the bottom right corner of the map display.
Copy the link from your browser's address bar.
Click on Support at the top of the screen.
On the page that appears, under Quick Help, type Ghost Segment Removal.
Click on the e-mail button. ("Ask an Agent by: )
Can't remember exact details here, but send them the link you copied.

You will need to give your details, and you will receive an e-mail when it has been deleted.

Good luck with it, and I hope it's fixed by December, as I will be driving there for the Alfred Dunhill Championship...

Thanks, this was exactly what I needed.

Still some confusing stuff I need to clear-up as their now is two N4 sections around Waterfall Boven, the old and the new road, both marked N4, both toll roads.

Suspect the old section will eventually be renamed to something new.

Glad I could help.

I actually took note when driving there (I think it was December). Both routes are labelled N4 Nelspruit, but with an added bit for each: "via Waterval Boven" and "via Schoemanskloof". (I think the spelling is correct).
So it might be an idea to use a name something like "N4 - via Waterval Boven", and "N4 - via Schoemanskloof" for the respective routes.

I will be driving that route in December again, and will carefully check any road signage to see if it has changed from what I said.

OK, ghost segments gone, and I fixed that part of the road.

Wanted to name the two roads as you suggested, but suddenly lost all my edit rights all sections (but a few km) of this drive?

My editing rights came back.

Changed the two names to the via " " format. Also made the new big N4 via a via Schoemanskloof "freeway" and the old winding N4 via Waterfalboven a Major Highway. This should allow for the navigation to select the quicker new N4.

My trip is "interrupted" on a small section on each and I do not have editing rights to change the name of the road there.

@RodNav, can you update it?

That was lucky, I didn't think I could still edit in that area, since it's more than 3 months since I was there, but I could, and I did - it's renamed. (I probably wouldn't be able to make changes to any junctions now, though) .
