LA hwy naming

Postby scruffy151 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:35 am

It looks like from the other thread the general naming convention for state highways is SR-xx or SH-xx. Is Louisiana going to be one of the exceptions and use LA-xx? It would make sense to me, most of the signs seem to be printed that way.

In southern Louisiana, we pronounce most state highways as "Ellay-##" This is how the TTS is going to pronounce "LA-##". So it should work.

Sketch was going to inquire about getting LA-## to generate shields. That's the main drawback to doing this. I've only successfully gotten a state highway shield (round oval) out of "State Hwy ##".

True. I am trying to get ahead of the curve. So when shield generation catches up we will be ready.

Yeah, no reason not to start early. Gonna try to get 'em to automagically convert all "State Rte" and "State Hwy" to "LA-" and then to create shields for them.

It could just be LA ## without the hyphen, which seems to be how it's done in all official literature, but I don't think it really matters.

I'd love to do the same thing in PA...we call our state routes PA-XX as well. It flows much better abbreviated.

As far as I remember, every LADOT page I've seen. I might be mistaken.
