To Do Lists in Wiki

Post by kentsmith9
I recently found a number of dead pages that link to some "to do lists" that for the most part do not seem to have a lot of activity for the last few years. When new editors find these pages they create confusion when they are not active.

I propose that we consider removing the connected pages that are not actively being used to reduce confusion. To be clear I am not proposing we remove any actively managed pages that link to this one.

Here are examples of pages I propose we remove from the Region 4 at least (or have someone actually set them up as these pages are simply templates with no real data for that area). The first three are pretty well set up already, so they may not be necessary to keep here any more anyway.

Should we remove them or use the NeedInfo or similar template as a placeholder?

On the other hand, I found that the "metro area" to-do pages to be too limited in scope, so I switched to using a statewide one for Oregon.

It mentions Province but there are no other countries active but USA. Let's dump it and make To-do a category and let the states link to the remaining active ones from a State home page, like I am doing in the Northeast.
The way wikimedia works now is different than before. The base link to the page you are referencing is http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/To_D ... e-Province. And you are correct, the index page should be re-done or scrapped.

Note that on the Salt Lake city one I'm using that as the link site for Utah's Landmark guidelines, which I will maintain at least until a national set is finally published, if not beyond with modifications to match the national standard with any relevant localization rules. I looked at using the To do list as designed for a while but then decided I didn't feel like trying to edit (my still weak wiki-fu was even weaker then) it and just used it to host the link. So it's not as abandoned/ignored as it looks. Please leave it be.

And as the community of editors in Utah is finally starting to cooperate and communicate we may start using it. Though major projects are now fewer and further between.

Well once the standard is published (if ever) Utah probably won't need more than a couple caveats to the list.

But moving the link would work just be sure to tell me so I can change my sig when you do. I hate clicking on a link to find somebody moved it.

Should we just dump this page and make to-do a category? It's a mess and few pages are actively updated.

Alphabetical would be better than the dog's breakfast we have now.

Shall I do the honors?

All the state pages with content now have a USA To Do category. http://www.waze.com/wiki/Category:USA_To_Do
I didn't do CA, since all they had is a landing page.
Kent, do we now put the to-be removed template on http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/To_D ... e-Province and http://www.waze.com/wiki/To_Do_-_California
