Finding a place on the map without navigating to it

Postby henrik242 » Sat May 05, 2012 10:55 am

Hi.

I want to add a favourite for a place that doesn't have an address. I know that I can tap and hold on it, but I need to have that area on the map already. It's 3000 km away from me, so the easiest would be to search for the nearest city, move around on the map, and add the favourite. Is it possible to search for a city and go there immediately? When I try, Waze only starts to navigate to that place.

I'm using the Android client on a Nexus S with ICS.

When you search for a location, Waze will shows you a mini-map with two buttons underneath for Favorite and Navigate. There's a 3rd button on the corner of the map which should then take you to the full map so you can pan around. (Though this always crashes the app when I do it).

A bit like this: (don't think Android has More button yet)

Hope that helps.

But that still doesn't let you tap-hold on the exact location to add/route.

What I suggest is zooming out on the client. You can get the entire US on the screen I believe. Double-tap on the spot to zoom to and it will re-center and zoom. Repeat until you find the spot.

I agree with henrik242: this function would be very very very useful! It was possible with 2.4 version, I still do not understand why developers didn't implement it on 3.0 version.

Sorry, I just realized that Timbones is correct: this function is already in the app. Once you enter a destination POI or city or address and the "preview" of that location is on the screen, tap the More button. One of the "More" choices is "Show on Map" which then exits the navigation menu and pans the map to that location. You can then fine-tune the destination by tap-holding on the actual road location you want to navigate to.

Totally agree. This function is utterly needed. It was removed in version 3 somehow. Now I need to write correct address, but there are no addresses for some places, and I dont know them. I just want to point place on map and drive there. But it is hard and takes long time to scroll to needed places each time. The best thing is to allow pointing more precise place after search, which currently is not allowed. I can only zoom out and browse around, but no MORE button or whatever possibility to pinpoint correct place. It is just needed.

Indeed, the Play Store version lacks the More button.
