Yes it's still there on my Wife's iPhone 4.

I've got a couple of hundred miles to do today so I'll give it a proper try :-)

iOS Beta 3.1.99.15 Feedback thread

Postby Dave2084 » Mon May 21, 2012 7:45 am

Well, so much for deleting and reinstalling.

After deleting I used test flight to reinstall the beta and as it was late didn't really do much else except drop my custom map schema's onto the phone. Set off this morning and my initial excitement when landscape mode worked was lost when I realised it had installed the current release rather than the beta. :-(

When I initially installed it I did it from the link in the email which I have now done again.

Will now try it properly on my way home.

Has anyone else had this issue when installing from test flight?

Of course one of the problems I now face having deleted and reinstalled (twice) is that I've lost all my favourites and with no working search option I can only put them back by browsing the map, which involves knowing exactly where they are :-(

It should ask you if you want to restore your favourites after you log in.

Nope, I've now done two delete reinstalls and neither time did it offer to restore them. First time was on wifi and second was on 3G.

I forget now. Perhaps this is something you opt into at some point, the saving of them on the server side. At any rate, just restore from a backup from the day before you lost them. You do sync your phone to iTunes every day, right?

iOS Beta 3.1.99.15 Feedback thread

I sync most days ...

I know it has worked for me in the past as I had my previous iPhone replaced by apple and reloaded Waze including favourites while I was in store for the drive home. That would have been on v2.x ... So maybe it's a v3 issue?

They're all back in now anyway it is only really a drama a search is broken.

Does search work on the NA servers?

Search doesn't do anything for me in Canada. And hitting Categories just crashes. I tried deleting and reinstalling to no avail, though that did ask me if I wanted to restore my favourites. But ultimately I just went back to the public version and restored from the day before. I use it for work, so I need to have a working search.

OK, observations from my drive home through rush hour from Telford to Lincoln (110 miles):

1. No Toll road avoidance. Waze does not seem capable of a route East/West or West/East north of Birmingham that does not involve the overpriced M6 Toll. Routes just gives you choices of where you exit the toll (A38/A5/M69). I know that this is not new to this beta but Waze is effectively useless for navigation in this area without Toll avoidance, please, please, please let's have it soon!

2. Stability. Only 2 crashes today, possibly due to deletion and re-install but this release is still nowhere near as stable as it should be.

3. Landscape mode missing. I know it's in the release notes but I'm getting a sore neck trying to look at it sideways while driving ;-)

3. Zoom by Distance. Waze is zooming in way too far ... to the point you can't see the junction:

4. TTS vs displayed distance. The new UK TTS is great (though she does, like the US voice sound like she's down a drain!) but when you're getting close to a junction the voice announces in yards and the screen is in feet. Can we unify our units? (Yards preferred under say 1/4 mile)

5. I've noticed a few times that if you deviate from the route auto recalculation does not always take place, at one point today 5 minutes passed (phone signal OK too).

6. Rendering Issues. Sometimes on dual carriageways Waze doesn't render the road correctly. It's OK on the web live map and if you zoom in the out (or vice versa) it's OK. I've noticed this prior to the beta but managed to get a screenshot before.

One temporary work-around to that could be to change the section of road that requires a toll into a dirt road.
