To find Edward Fieldstone on my iPhone, I can type any of "ed fie", "edw fi", "edward", or "fieldstone".
However, on Waze, *none* of the above work. I need to type the full name "Edward Fieldstone". This is cumbersome. And forcing so much text entry is particularly onerous when the phone is mounted on the windshield.

Yeah, please search "contacts search" on the site and you'll find plenty of threads already discussed it.
