Waze Connecting but not showing Maps (Android)

This is strange -- I was using Waze earlier today without issue, then I load it up a few minutes ago, and it doesn't show maps.

It is connected to Waze, and GPS (I verified by clicking the righthand button from the main Waze screen -- it says both are connected)

It even shows "downloading 5kb..10kb..etc", as if it is downloading the map.

But there is no map -- It won't show anything.

I've tried closing and restarting Waze several times, as well as restarting my phone (Android G1). This does not seem to help.

Note: Google maps works fine, as does the Browser or any other network-enabled apps.

The map area is completely black, other than occassional blob of blue (I have no idea what the blue represents)

Note: Waze worked earlier today on this phone

Some additional notes:

1. The "Events" display is working (meaning i'm connected to Waze) -- just no maps

2. Directions don't work, "Can't find road near departure point" -- probably because it isn't retrieving a map. Note looking up addresses works, it just won't plot directions

3. Top-right button shows status:

"Good GPS Reception"
"Good network connection"
"Your are connected to the Waze"

BTW: Waze team, that's a typo ("Your are connected to the Waze") :)

Hello again,

I noticed an Android Beta (1.2.99.5) listed in the forums:

http://212.235.55.49/android/WazeAndroid.apk

Downloading and installing this beta seems to have resolved my issue. Waze is now showing maps again.

Which version of Android are you running?

I installed the 1.6 ("Donut") update this morning, and Waze worked as usual the first time I launched it. However, on subsequent launches, it's doing the same thing as you reported--says it's connected, but no maps (and "no GPS signal", even though other apps see the GPS signal just fine)

Is this issue still a problem ? I do not see anything that can explain this from our side, except perhaps 1.6 which we need to check.

Looks like there might be a problem with waze 1.3 and android 1.6, as a few users reported the issues you mentioned. We're looking into it.

I have updated Waze yesterday night and first run was crash. None of the keys did work on my G1. My G1 also has new firmware 1.6. I did pull out the battery to restart the G1. This morning I ran again and noticed many issues.
1. Was not updating maps. Just was showing the car on one place. No update at all even though I was driving with GPS on and with network connected.
2. Tried to exit out from Waze took longer than expected, re-run Waze but same issue again.
3. Then I waited more and kept driving but in few moments my G1 crashed and restarted automatically.
After restart of my G1 I stopped the Waze and started using Google maps to find out traffic.
Looks like I am not going to try again until I get another updated of Waze this last update has lots of issue and crashes.

OK - we have some issues with the 1.6 and we are pulling the waze 1.3 from the market and downgrading to 1.2
We hope to resolve this issue soon.
