Location of Reports?

Postby Detourism » Tue Mar 09, 2010 8:56 pm

Just a quick question about submitting a report while moving.

When does Waze actually mark the position of the report?

Is it when I first press the "Report" button or is it when the "Send" button is pressed after completing the info?

Thanks

It is when you press the "Report" button.
When you press it, a pin will be created on the actual GPS-Point. You can edit this report later.

How do you edit a report? On the iPhone client, when I press a report icon that I have created, the only options are "Close" and "Comment". No edit.

You can edit the report after you hit 'Report' but before you send the report to the server. So if you want to add text, but cannot do this because you are driving, hit Menu->Report, leave the screen as it is, find a suitable parking spot, edit the details and send it to the server. As said above, the location of the report is determined by your location at the moment you pressed Report.

Is it really when you hit "Report" or is it when you enter report type (e.q. police trap, map error etc) ? When adding house numbers it looks like latter one but if sending police trap or speed cam reports then you may be right.

Correct except for one thing. If you leave the screen how it is, then you cannot see where you are going if you are using the nav guidance to get somewhere. You can tap 'hide' and you can hide it away which you can later pull back up by a tab placed on the bottom ride side of the screen. This way, you can use your GPS to get where you are going or finding a good place to pull over to report, and do it there.

I can not imagine doing it this way, because the display stays obscured and I'm not able to report anything else, until...

I often have to report hazards / traffic jams / car accidents / police etc. without any description - just empty icon appears. I'm later adding the missing description in the first comment, but this is obscured for other wazers - I doubt many are opening comments for any report they are approaching :?

A perfect solution would be if Waze would allow me to later edit my own empty reports and let me add its initial description text. Optionally modify the exact report type for a correct one, etc. Typing even icons en route is often dangerous :(

Its been a few months since this suggestion was made. I agree and still wish there is a way to edit/cancel any type of report or even auto-traffic icons on the waze map. What if my finger hits the wrong report button by accident because im watching the road and clicking out of the corner of my eye?

Or what actually did happen to me... I clicked the traffic report for a traffic jam. Because i was near an intersection it snapped me to the crossing road and not the road i was on. I looked for a way to remove that incorrect traffic report and there wasn't.

Why can't we edit/remove any type of data submitted by our app?

I wouldn't like to try and edit or remove anything while driving. The option to remove faulty reports appear whn the warning for the report pops up for a driver closing in on it. He/She just have to click the "Not there" button and it will be gone. Happens to me all the time. Don't know if drivers are bored and place out warnings or if the Auto Assistance in Sweden is so efficient that they remove cars or other obstacles quickly...:-)
