Talking about speed cameras, I would like to be able to add the PTP cameras as well as speed / red light cameras.

Also has anyone else noticed the speed cameras on the monash between warrigal rd and huntingdale rd? I have put them on the map a few times but the keep getting erased.

Speed Cameras

Postby dualarrow » Wed Aug 22, 2012 12:12 pm

Hi,

I found some entries for speed cameras on the nitersection of Malaga Dr and Ried Hwy that had no max speeds, so I added the speed, but I also noticed theres an "approved" checkbox.

When should this "approved" checkbox be checked ?

Thanks,
Andrew

You should tick the approved box for a speed/red light camera when the camera is correctly positioned and pointing in the correct direction (e.g. the direction you have to be driving to get caught by the camera), then add the speed limit for that section of the road, then tick approved so it shows up in the Waze app so drivers can be notified of it's location. (Cameras which aren't tick approved don't show up in the app)

Looks to me that judging by http://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov.au/home/locations/camera+locations/ and driving on that stretch of freeway there is no fixed or permanent speed cameras there (Unless it is a very new fixed installation!). The Speed Camera button in the Waze app should only be used to record the location of permanent cameras.

If they are mobile speed cameras (police on the side of the road with a laser or a car with the camera hidden on the front bumper), then the "Police Hidden" report button is to be used, which gives other Waze drivers real time alerts to these cameras (similar to reporting traffic).

This Waze Wiki page has some good info on the topic of cameras: http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Cameras
