Voice navigation requires keyboard input?

Why do you have to pull up the keyboard when verbally entering a destination. Would a submit button not be safer while driving.

Waze doesn't have verbal destination entry (voice recognition). That is built into the OS. Waze doesn't know or care that what you enter is from the OS doing voice recognition or the keyboard. It puts up the only interface it has (keyboard) and you are entering via voice to the OS, not to Waze. The OS inputs to Waze via the keyboard.
