North at top

Is there away to always have north at the top of the screen?

What device are you using? If you press the arrowlike button under the zoom out button shown here it should toggle between north up and course up.

It would be great if you could LOCK the north up too, so that it does not keep reverting back. (like maybe by a long push of the North Up button)

I'm one of those persons that visualizes maps with north up regardless of what direction I'm traveling. So yes... My paper maps never need to rotate.

I know other people's brains don't work that way, and prefer and need Course Up maps, but I bet there are a lot of other North Up people in the world.

Thanks for the pointer; I use either an iPhone or iPad.

And I agree with GimzoGuy411 that real locking would be great; perhaps just a third tap in the cycle,

course up,north up(for now), north up(locked), course up, etc.

I am definitely a "north up" person, for the same reason. I learned to navigate back in the day with good old fashioned paper maps... aka real estate maps (they military ain't got nothin' on real estate agents for accuracy).

I certainly wouldn't mind having a persistent option in the settings for north being set to the top of the screen. I think various other navigation programs have this, and it's a handy feature for those of us that are old school. There might even be a uservoice request/post/thing for this feature.

I just wish there was more control over how the client functions in navigation mode vs. non-navigation mode.

While navigating to a destination I'd like:
- Up = direction of travel
- Auto zoom to next turn

While just driving around I'd like:
- Up = North
- Auto zoom based on speed

I agree, it would be nice to have the option of North up or direction-of-travel. They're both useful in certain situations but most people are accustom to one or the other.

Suggestions.
1. PLEASE make an optional feature to lock "north at top" as this is the way many "professional" navigaitors work. It gives us much more positional and directional relevance.
2. ALSO add a "North arrow" permanent display option for whichever way the map is used. Maybe as a "watermark"?
3. CONSIDER hazzard icons for such elements as FOG (add visibility distance e.g. FOG20m) and ICE which could save many lives.
4. A page of Icon Interpretation and how to utilse them would help us "old age newbies" get (and give) better information. Many of us "old" navigators are keen but are slightly "technologically challenged" and like to have documents to study and reffer to. For instance, try as I may, I am not sure if I have been able to show and share the new roads I have traversed, correct inaccuracies, name new roads. The info published on my I-pad SEEMS logical, but I do not want to have to ask my IT Manager (or adult son) to help this old "Sporty944" boy out.
