Waze will pause the other audio if:

1. The other app supports pausing. You can tell because the small playing triangle appears in the top status bar.
2. Waze and other app are set to output audio to different sources. Otherwise, Waze just fades in and out.

I agree that there should be an option to pause or fade even if they are using the same output.

However! iOS restricts Waze's abilities in that if Waze is set to output via speaker and your audiobook is going over bluetooth streaming, iOS is the one which stops the audiobook to allow Waze to output via speaker. iOS only allows one output method for ANY app currently outputting audio.

When I'm playing audio, waze simply speaks over it - no pause, no fade in/out, just mixed audio.

I noticed in iOS 3.1.1.0, Waze doesn't play nice with audio (specifically the Music app). Before the recent update, I could play music and Waze would turn down the music, give a prompt, then turn the music back up. Now it completely pauses it whenever Waze is open. If I toggle the "use phone speaker" option it will temporarily allow the music to play, but if I go to another app (or even open the task menu) the audio is paused. It would be great if you could fix this bug :)

Pause other audio during Waze report

Postby erkman » Thu May 24, 2012 7:42 pm

Would love the option to pause all other audio when a Waze report comes up (just during the voice report). I use Waze for 90 miles each day, I also use Audible.com app for 90 miles each day, interrupting my audio book creates road rage :)

I swear this use to be a feature, can't remember tho.

Same, very irritating when you get announcements every few minutes, also while the volume is turned as low as it can without being totally off it still over powers the audio really really loudly (why is this?)
