I've just noticed that if I go to the live map, and click on a random road in France, it shows me the average speed for that road in km/h. But for UK roads, no such information is shown. I thought waze recorded that info anyway - is there a reason it's not show when clicking on UK roads?

There might be a reason, but I wouldn't give it much thought. Those numbers aren't very useful. Waze tracks average road speed in 10-min intervals, so a "global average" doesn't really help much. I am not sure where that "average" number is coming from, nor why it doesn't appear everywhere.
