Finding an address in California

Postby Spoud » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:46 pm

Hi there,

I just downloaded Waze today and i am having trouble finding my rental place in California.

I am a Canadian and currently in Victoris, BC. Is this why the GPS can't find the address?

The place in California is:
street name --> Via Dante
City --> Montclair
State --> California

Thanks
Sp

I just did a quick search on Google & Bing (where Waze gets it location data from in the US).

Google will find the road, but not any addresses on it. I tried: 1, 2, 10, 100 and some random address in the 1000's that Google at Zillow on a web search.

Bing won't find the road at all.

It may or may not even be on the Waze map... You may have to add the road to the map yourself... When you are there, I would suggest pressing and holding on the Waze map on your phone & adding that location to your favorites list if you will be going there on a regular basis...

Interesting. But the question is how do I get there the first place if I do not have access to GPS and a map?

Do you know where it is on the map? If you do, try going to the spot on the live map. Click on the road and set it as your destination. Put in your start point and see where the live map takes you. Might help in how to enter the destination on your phone app.

Google it, find an address/intersection near by that Waze will recognize & use that...

Finding an address in California

I get a result if I use:

Via Dante St
Via Dante

Searching from the Waze app in San Diego.

Possibly this is a private road or in a private community hence no street address data? It sounds like a typical name for a private st.

Maybe this is over 1000 miles?

I was testing this the other day and the longest I could route was around 700. But there still seems to be an issu with getting search results to come up over a few hundred miles.

I was mostly restricted to Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama but then suddenly I'd get a New York (which is unroutable from here). It's hit or miss.

The search results have never been totally reliable. In multiple cases I have searched for something to find no results just to search for the exact same thing a moment later getting results. Sometimes adding the city and/or removing the city from the search filed makes a difference also. Another issue is searches for a singular vs plural. Let's say the poi name is plural and you leave off the last letter (such as s). Waze sometimes doesn't work well with partial matches.

Certainly could use some improvement.
