Hi,

Someones using the new roads! I have an update request on the A46:
https://world.waze.com/cartouche_old/?z ... FFFFFFTTTT
and
https://world.waze.com/cartouche_old/?z ... FFFFFFTTTT

General errors. Probably as some roads still marked up as "Under construction".

I can close them off (if you are not getting the UR's) as work in progress if you like?

Des. . . ;)

A46 Newark to Widmerpool Improvement

Postby Dave2084 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 8:22 pm

I've been doing a lot of Waze work on the A46 Newark to Widmerpool Improvement (Opens Summer 2012) and I've been trying to keep up with all the changes in road layout and paths.

To aid this I've been dropping a lot of road reports to mark positions to help me with this. Unfortunately on more than one occasion another Wazer has seen these and taken the fact the road does not follow the aerial photography to mean it's a problem and put it back :-(

So, Armed with the latest GPS tracks and info from the Highways Agency Pages I've decided to draw all the new roads in ... hopefully this will gave a clue to other map editors that work is in progress here. All the roads that are not open/complete have been set as no entry service roads and everything has been locked.

Is this an acceptable practice?

Permalinks:
Saxondale A46/A52 Junction (Nottingham)
A46/6097 Junction
Lodge Lane Junction
Flintham Junction
East Stoke Byepass
Farndon Byepass/Newark Junction

I'll continue along the A46 to the Widmerpool end tomorrow ...

The first set of new roads for the A46 upgrade have arrived on the live map. They are not perfect as I had to guess a lot of the tracks until be get GPS data (which will involve the roads being open!)

All marked as "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" and no entry until they open.

Yes I deliberately stopped, blocking the road until the it showed bad traffic, quite rewarding really!

If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna buy a milk float and go Wazing in it on bank holidays ;-)

Highways Agency press Release:

Road users advised of major change to A46 layout in Nottinghamshire
HIGHWAYS AGENCY News Release issued by COI News Distribution Service on 19 October 2011

The Highways Agency is advising road users to be aware of a major change to the layout of the A46 as part of the ongoing Newark to Widmerpool improvement.

From approximately 2am on Saturday, 29 October northbound traffic will be switched on to a 3.5 mile section of new carriageway between Stragglethorpe and Saxondale. Vehicles will then use the new slip roads at the new Saxondale roundabout to rejoin the existing A46.

Southbound traffic will be switched on to the new carriageway a few days later, from approximately 2am on Thursday, 3 November.

Also on Wednesday, 26 October the northbound entry and exit slip roads at the Stragglethorpe junction will be closed for around four weeks to allow what has been a temporary section of road to be re-constructed to form the final slip roads.

Traffic travelling towards the Stragglethorpe junction from either Nottingham Road or Stragglethorpe Road wanting to join the A46 northbound will initially be diverted south on the A46 to Owthorpe junction, from where it can turn round and rejoin the northbound A46.

Traffic travelling north on the A46 wishing to leave at the Stragglethorpe junction will be diverted to Saxondale, where it will turn round and join the A46 southbound.

Highways Agency senior project manager Geoff Bethel said:
"This is an exciting milestone for us as a significant section of the new carriageway is being brought into use."

"We would however advise drivers that their usual route is going to change overnight and what is normal one day will be very different the next. People also need to bear in mind that the new section is not the final, finished arrangement and will still be subject to a speed limit of 40mph. Motorists need to pay particular attention to the traffic management and, as the new road is some distance away from the existing A46, we would recommend they follow the road signs rather than their sat navs."

I've now rerouted the road to my best guess of the new routes, hopefully it will appear on the live may as close as possible to Saturday night.

Meanwhile if anyone drives this before me, PM me if anything is wrong.

Oh well, it was all for nothing. A week after the road opened along it new route we're still waiting for map updates.

I guess my plans for a side by side Waze/TomTom comparison will have to wait. :?

I drove the newest section to open today after the map update and I got 6 miles of cookies! :D

As it has actually been open 10 days or so there are actually enough tracks to align the road to it's true path, so the next map update will make it even better ...

I also had a look along some of the unopened sections and it looks like there's a Wazer on the construction crew as we have GPS tracks on the bits that haven't been opened ... Nice!

I'll align it to the tracks tomorrow ready for whenever it opens:
