I've never seen my client (v2.0) say 'exit left'...

It's in the 2.9.* and 3.* versions.

Actually happens too often in my opinion, eg I get exit instructions from a single carriageway minor highway!

It happens wherever you use the "ramp" road type. It also gives an "exit left" when leaving a roundabout to join an entry slip.

Incorrect.

For example: A57(M) in Manchester, A58(M) and A64(M) in Leeds, M45 near Coventry, M275 in Portsmouth, and A167(M) in Newcastle.

Just sayin'

Pretty sure M275 and M45 do. The others aren't real motorways :D

Tim, reposting the same post over and over again is not going to change the mind of the people who just do not agree with you.

I think also starting to have a big problem with the attitude that we should "do the same as in the US". We have a completely different road network here. The "standards" were written by US wazers for the US map.

2. There’s no need to put a direction the onward road number as this would only be possible if there’s no choice (e.g. M1 (S) J23A to A42) and then there’s no point.

Good post. Only thing to say is that the direction is needed in some cases.
For example:
M25 (CW) J16 to M40 (N)
M25 (CW) J16 to M40 (S)
The junction has 2 separate exits, one for each direction of M40, so they need to be differentiated.

On the vast majority of cases though, you're right that direction on the onward road isn't needed.

Yeh, that pisses me off. It's really weird and road dependant though, and probably not the same for everyone. The A370 in Somerset I would say as "A three seventy", the A421 south of Bedford I would say as "A four two one", but the B660 which I live on is the "B six six oh".

Alternative Junction Naming Scheme for UK

Postby gettingthere » Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:29 am

Sorry to invade the conversation...

I can assure you that not all exits from highways in the United States lead to only one road.

I agree that 'to' in a ramp name is silly and redundant. Every road and ramp goes to somewhere, yes?

It used to be 'keep left'. I can't remember when it has been changed to 'exit left'. Maybe after installing 2.9.99.117 version.

A167(M) should not be motorway. It's only about 2km long. Maybe they put (M) on is to restrict the L plate :D
