Can't edit direction in these segments

Postby jasonh300 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 4:35 am

See the segments of Levee Rd that are set with a direction, rather than No Entrance.

I keep running into this. The basemap imports made the dirt road on the top of the Mississippi River levees into minor highways and often named them the same as the River Road, which is also a minor highway, and carries the name River Road, or State Hwy ##.

This is obviously totally wrong. My first impulse was to delete the levee roads, however, I found that while driving the River Roads, there was almost always a red traffic line and the speed would show around 10 MPH. The reason for this is that people walk and bike on the levees and apparently, some of them are Wazers. When the levee road came out of the maps, Waze locks onto the River Road, which is usually about 25 feet away.

Now I'm trying to label them all "Levee Rd" and set them as No Entrance 4x4/Dirt Roads.

They all show as created by Admin (6) and sometimes they're locked. When they're locked, I'm able to edit the road type and road name, but I can't set the direction to No Entrance. I'm able to unlock them and save without a problem. The problem only occurs when I try to change the direction.

Why is that happening?

Weird. Yeah, sorry, one of them is set to 2-way now. :\ Let me know if you need it unlocked.

I have no problem changing direction or setting two-way. I just can't set them to no-entrance. I'm area manager, so your level 4 lock doesn't keep me from changing it...to one-way again.

I've been changing them in Cartouche without a problem. I'm just wondering why this is happening. I assume it's because it was created and locked by a Level 6, which isn't usually the case with basemap imports.

Are these Levee roads able to be driven by the average Wazer? If not, you may want to delete them instead.

Tried that.

It seems that bikers and walkers on the levees run Waze, thereby causing a jam condition on the River Road, which runs alongside the levee. So I put back few that I deleted.

Oh, and I can't delete the segments that I can't change the direction on without going into old Cartouche.

Likely your issue with editing these may be do to how coastal/water boundaries are defined.

An optimal solution here would be to change the way backgrounding works.

It's a topic for another discussion, but if Waze gets more intelligent with background usage, we could avoid the need for this altogether. Essentially, if someone closes the app with no route planned, it should stop itself entirely. If a power user would like to run it in the background for points or tracking, there could be an option for this, but I feel most users don't really care about this. The same users would be the type to close the app and walk their dogs without a second thought.

I thought if you put the phone to sleep, and then didn't move any significant distance within a few minutes, Waze would shut down?

That's what is supposed to happen, the reality is is that once you go inside a building your GPS lock wobbles around all over the place and makes you appear to be moving.

That and it's something like a ten-minute period. That doesn't really help if you get home and the dog needs a W-A-L-K.
