Do you mean that the car moves forward on the map a bit and then the car and map move together sometimes? This is quite different than jumping around, which it does when 1) the phone CPU isn't keeping up with all the computations Waze is asking it to do, or 2) when GPS is off and Waze is trying to figure out which road you really are on.

The "non-smooth scrolling" thing started last year and is in the App Known Issues list posted Feb 3, 2011. Video link included in the report so you can verify that the "non-smooth scrolling" is different than the "jumping around."

I didn't think your issue was the same. My note was more to jab_au.

I don't know what to say about your problem, though. I have experienced it, but it's rare and I've not found a set of circumstances which cause it.

My car is jumping on the map !

Postby Autourdupc » Thu May 10, 2012 7:23 am

Not depending on the Waze version, sometimes, my car on the maps is not moving smoothly... My car is going from one position to the next by jump...
(I have actually Waze 3.0.2.8).

Waze will run correctly after a reboot of my device.

I have log collector... Where should I send the logs ?

Thanks... I'm not alone on this world with this issue.
I think it is important because in this case, we can drive sometime during 500 or 600 m to get the car moving on the screen... And in this case, alert are displayed too late (I think about police or danger) - I get this case this morning
I also found that this issue comes near a crash or a reboot of the device ! Maybe it is a part of the code that is wasting memory or havy use the CPU.

After updating to Waze V3.1.99.105, the apps still not work correctly (for the car refresh position on map).
I put Waze in background for 5 minutes and when launching it from task bar, Waze re-started has if it was never started.

I decided to stop Waze and reboot my device... After the restart, no icon of Waze in the installed apps ! Like if Waze was never installed !
I decided to install again using the apk downloaded and during install the device told me that the installation will replace the previous. I said "Yes" and now Waze works again !

1) The phone CPU seem to be oaky because all other apps works perfectly
2) GPS is not off and everything seem to be good

The video is not the same effect... In my case, the arrow stays at the same place even when I move with my car. After 500 or 600 meters, the arrow suddendly moves to the next position - means moves very very quickly to the next position, and the map then moves to center again the arrow.
The arrow stays at the new place on the map then suddendly moves 1 more cm to the next position.

I don't know how can I take a movie of this phenomena... Do you know an application I can install to record live screen ?

I think it is not GPS... When Waze plays this phenomena, it remains till I reboot the phone... I dont have this in Latitude !

If I encounter again the bug, I will try to make a video using my photo camera (it will not easy while driving !).

Maybe I have the answer...
The car is "jumping" on the map when there is no data or data issue !
I made this video this morning (sorry for the poor quality).
My speed is quite constant.
We can see that there is no data (Waze is in red on top of the screen).
After going to airplane mode and reverting back to standard mode, no more data issue with Waze.
This phenomena can explain why sometimes the car is "jumping" on the map - Maybe the data rate is not enought for client.

OK... Let me know when the version is available... I'm on beta.
This was on 3.1.99.105 Android.
