One thing that helped me with my Galaxy S, was to turn off the "Use wireless networks" under Location and security. What I found (after someone else here suggested it might be a problem) was that anytime there was any delay or hitch in a tower handoff, or even a small deadspace, it would crash the app, and indeed lock the entire phone requiring me to remove the battery to recover.

Once I turned off that setting those crashes became very rare. I'm not guaranteeing this will fix the problem but it may, it worked for me.

Sorry that didn't fix it. It did it for me. Now I do caveat that I use an external Bluetooth GPS antenna since the GPS in the Galaxy S is known and acknowledged by Samsung to be weak (one of the few drawbacks to the device). That causes the internal GPS to lose signal occasionally when inside a vehicle. That may also be part of the issue. But I was using that antenna before I found Waze, and I was getting the crashes regardless of internal or external GPS, until I turned off the wireless location. Though they were more regular with the internal GPS.

Oh, one other tip I've seen is do you use the built in mapping software like latitude? I've only id'd that as the cause a couple times but trying to run waze and latitude at the same time has caused a couple crashes. Now this was caused when I'd intentionally opened the other mapping tools, not just when they self load in the background. Not sure what the difference is there just what I've tried.

I'm not really sure what to have those still having problems at this point, just sharing my experiences and observations in hope that something can lead to your full enjoyment of the Waze experience. Oh and one thing, make sure anytime you do crash, when you get back into Waze and it wants to send a report, let it.

After reading this thread, I turned off "Use wireless networks" in my location settings. It still crashed twice on my way home, once before I even got onto the freeway and again about 15 km later.
The first was a force-close, the second crashed the entire phone and forced a reboot.

I've been plagued with random crashes and restarts on my Galaxy S -
Will try turning off the wifi location and see how it goes - It happens quite frequently for me, so i'll know soon enough if this fixes the problem

cheers :)

Still no joy - still crashing.

I've observed that the crashes are pretty much only when route navigation is running -

I suspect that this may be a symptom of the navigation being reliant on mobile broadband connectivity.
I've found Waze annoying to use in rural areas where data coverage is poor or non-existent.

Frequent crashing

With all versions of waze including 3.0.2.8 i have regular crashing. It happens most frequently with incoming phone calls or other programs putting up a notification. I will notice that waze will still be in the notification bar but the gps will not be on. I have a motorola electrify. I have experinced this on 2 other phones. All android.
