Solved Springfield, Ma

Postby jawbreaker1222 » Thu May 31, 2012 10:43 pm

I need help with an edit on a major highway.

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=4&lat ... 2,66130523

When getting onto Interstate 91S from segment 63959831 you can not exit at segment 66130522 It is an illegal lane change across 3 lanes of traffic. Highway traffic can exit there but people from the on ramp can not. The on ramp dose start its own highway lane that continues as a lane after the exit but it is only seperated by a solid white line not a barrier. And there are signs all along the onramp saying not to cross traffic and take exit. The navigation tries to route people off of the exit in question when they can not.

The only way i can think to fix it would be to either split the road at the on ramp and rejoin it after the exit or to extend the on ramp past the exit where it is legal to begin lane changes.
If someone with a bit more experience can chime in with some tips or make the change it would be great.

It's just outside my editing range, but I would suggest extending the on ramp past the exit where it is legal to change lanes as indicated by the pavement markings.

No problem. Thanks for reminding me that I had one of those to fix down in Waterbury, CT too(it is locked and I recently expanded the area I manage to include it)...

Yes, it looks like the proper solution will be to extend the on-ramp, and connect it to I-91 S beyond where the off-ramp exits.

If it helps with the geometry, feel free to adjust the off-ramp so that it leaves I-91 S a bit earlier. The less the on-ramp runs parallel with the interstate, the less opportunity anyone's GPS will have to mistake it for the main road (or vice-versa) and give an incorrect route.

Looks good! FWIW, while I was there I increased the lane separation between I-91 N and S in a couple places to give that on-ramp some space, which may help with GPS lock.
