Map defaults make no sense

Postby FreeMan12 » Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:42 pm

Here is an image of an area that looks like it's been lightly edited since it was originally created, but it makes no sense. (permalink, look south & west, where I can't edit, I'm fixing all these.)

Image (Note, I've snipped out some of the map at the vertical black line - I had it full screen and it wouldn't show the whole thing in the forum post)

As you can see by the selected road, someone has driven it, and modified it from the default 1-way to 2-way, but why do all of these seem to be defaulted to no turns allowed, or, maybe, the only turn allowed is the one the driver took?

This seems to be a fundamental flaw in the basic assumptions made by the developers. I understand that for full accuracy, a real-live human needs to look at each intersection and ensure that only legal turns are allowed, but I think it's safe to assume that in MOST cases, all 'possible' turns are allowed, not the opposite.

I suppose that the benefit to map editors is that we get points for fixing all of these, but that's really not much for the amount of time it takes to get all of this fixed up. At the moment, I don't think you could reach an address on one of these streets - as far as Waze is concerned, there are no turns allowed. Also, I think that for Joe Average new Waze user, that it going to be far more frustrating and a turn off to the product than the opportunity to earn some points by fixing it.

This has been discussed ad nauseum and I'm loathe to let another monster thread grow. I intend to lock this thread unless anyone seriously objects.

I'm fine with that. Would you be so kind as to point me to a couple of the others? I'm interested in finding out what the official policy is on this.

I know this thread has done it to death:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16551&start=90

It's currently under testing from a few individuals in the community (and until we can all come to similar conclusions, the discussion has stopped), including myself. My current thoughts can be found at the last post on that topic.

Map defaults make no sense

Summary - if you want it to be correct edit it manually and don't depend on Waze fixing it by user drives.
