Fort Myers to Vero Beach

Greetings. I like to use Waze when traveling. Soon I'll be in Florida and will be driving from Fort Myers to Vero Beach. Waze wants to send me either down to I-75 and over to Miami, or up through Tampa and Orlando! I'm rather sure it's faster going across the center (passing close to Venus and Okeechobee). I suspect it's just that Waze has hardly any experience with those less used roads. Opinions please? Thanks.

It looks like the most direct route would be through Okeechobee, like you said.

Ft. Myers to Okeechobee looks OK; its the Okeechobee to Vero beach segment that looks awry. You would think SR-70 is the best route, but Waze thinks not, so Okeechobee is a possible starting place to look for issues. Of course, Waze could just be trying to tell us that route is no good.

All the navigation apps want us to go up to SR-60 -- maybe they're subsidized by the mall . Anyway I'll give Waze some experience with those roads. Thanks.

Its been a few years since I made that trip. But back then sr70 was the best route. SR-80 Had some really rough patches of road. Maybe its better now.

When I did this run last summer, sr-70 was just fine. I believe Waze just needs training.
